they are such an easy read. i love them. they don't give out *all* the details, but man, i learned a lot about DOS and computer operating systems in general from them.

good stuff :)

Never read one, but if someone needs some help getting edumucated on a subject, however they choose to teach themselves is fine by me. I wouldn't think of you as an idiot/dummy for owning one.

Well, I will spill the beans on which one I got.

With the coversation about John Dewey and philosophy last night, I had philosophy freshly in my mind, so I decided to get the "Philosophy for Dummies" book.

Much of it I have studied already, but it does cover some things I have yet to read. I saw some comic strips and some "factioids" while flipping through it, so that should lift off on some of the heavy reading.

I would really like to go to Uni for phil. Too bad it's a pretty useless degree. :(

I don't know whether to laugh or cry at all the rubbish in this post.

Wow... lack of sleep really takes a toll (damn that thread keeping me up last night... and damn having to open in the morning!) I have been saying stupid all day long. Even my grammar/writing skills are going to .

LOL!

I went to write "There is so much hype..." and instead wrote "Theresa is so much hyper".

:stongue:

I don't know whether to think you're being a douche, or being facetious. Care to ellaborate?

i got the books Introducing Quantum Theory and Introducing Fractal Geometry which aren't too far from the whole ___ for dummies type books because i wanted to have a cursory understanding of those subjects and at the time i couldn't find relevant websites for the unexperienced.

for most if not all subjects in this day and age, i'd frown upon someone using such a book to learn, simply because the internet does a far better job at conveying most ideas.

truly for dummies, seeing as only a dummy would waste money on them.

Ouch.

My primary purpose of getting the book was to have something to read while at work...

My job is quite possibly the most boring job in existance. I am a bartender, and I work the day shift. In my entire 7-8 hours there, I open maybe 10-20 beers. That's it.

The book I wanted is not coming out in paperback until July :( :whip: (Phantom - Terry Goodkind, for those of you wondering).

I find the fact that you're reading a "Philosophy for Dummies" book pretty damn funny.

I find your assertion that a philosophy degree is "pretty worthless" to be a sad, misguided, and somewhat confusing considering your claimed interest in the subject.

Clear enough for you, sparkles?

It is pretty worthless monetarily. Few undergrads eventually go on to become profs. Might have value in plenty of other ways, though.

I have honest interest in what you think a philosophy degree could get me in the working world (aside from perhaps a teaching position)? Please let me know, because this is what has been holding me back from actually getting it.

P.S. Why you being such an ass today?
