What do you think of these books? Worth the buy? Useless?
I was at chapters this evening, and they were having a "___ For Dummies" super sale kind of thing, with hundreds of the books all over the place, marked "30%" off.
I actually ended up buying one.
Anyway... I am wondering if anyone has invested in one of these, and what they thought.
Also, when you see someone carrying a "___ For Dummies" book, do you think of them as stupid, or do you just see it as a show that they are trying to extend their knowledge? |

| I have a few. I won't say what, but I think that they're informative and very useful. When I see someone with one, I don't think anything different than if I would see them with any other book. |

| they're alright for dummies. but once you master the out of something (C++, VB6) and you look back, it's just something to get you on your feet and gain general dynamics of subjects. It's like going from pre-school to middle school on ______________gayporn_____ |

same here, i got a couple, most of the time, the only reason i get those types of books is usually because they have some good info that other books dont cover. |

Well, I will spill the beans on which one I got.
With the coversation about John Dewey and philosophy last night, I had philosophy freshly in my mind, so I decided to get the "Philosophy for Dummies" book.
Much of it I have studied already, but it does cover some things I have yet to read. I saw some comic strips and some "factioids" while flipping through it, so that should lift off on some of the heavy reading.
I would really like to go to Uni for phil. Too bad it's a pretty useless degree. :( |
