so wierd, here in the us poeple dislike living with their parents, i dunno why
while in latin america is the norm untill you graduate from college. family bonds are very strong in latin america, and its very evident with the whole moving out when im in college thing.. |
lol well i HATE my egg donor and havent talked to my immediate family in almost 4yrs. so.....yeah. thats a small window into who i have to help me. |

I love living with my mother. Family is number one on my list of what's important to me. My mom is really unwell...and yeah the bonus of living at home is that I don't pay rent, but I stay more because she needs me around to help take care of her. I don't think it's right to abandon your family when they need your support. | ya its wierd, like in guatemala noone has heard of a retierment home where you send old people when they cant take care of themselves... those things do not exist there... |

| well here in california, i think it depends on where you get the loan from for how much they give you. but for any loan for school, they pay your tuition at school first and give you the left over whatever it may be. you are supposed to spend it on school (books, gas to drive to school, food and stuff like that) just remember, whatever you spend it on, you have to pay it back anyways. they don't monitor your spending either. |

ive been paying my mom's electric bill, giving her $ towards rent & groceries AND cooking some mean ass meals for us...so yea, i guess i'm technically not "mooching" in the least bit. i'm just living with her.
we hang out a lot too. we spent the whole day together on sunday driving to miami for an art show after i took her to brunch. it was fun. but i still want my own place because she's so goddamn nosey and i can't deal w/ that. but i know all moms are like that. |

| I pay 380 a month to live in a great area downtown in a building that could definitely use some work. |

I wasn't really trying to be mean either Jamie - hell, my Mom actually SUGGESTED I move back home to save money in the last year of school :wtf:
And yeah, Myra and I are kind of in the same boat as far as Apt. hunting, because she needs to move in August, and I'm hoping to graduate in December, so she needs place she can afford for 6 months or so on her own, and that is big enough for me and her to live in comfortably afterwards. Milwaukee isn't Miami, but it'll still probably be at least $700-$800 a month (I think, Myra's the expert here). |
depending on area/amenities/parking/etc, rent in Milwaukee can range anywhere from $500-$1000 for a 1BR, and about $600-$1000+ for a 2BR... and i think it won't be too hard to find a nice 2BR for somewhere between $700-$800, which will be $350-$400 split between the 2 of us. much better than the $645 i'm paying now.
only thing that sucks about moving back downtown is that i'm most likely going to lose my patio, unless i find a flat with a porch or balcony. most apartment buildings with balconies downtown are $$$$. |

i could never do that to either of my parents unless they had an illness which required constant medical attention. but even then, i'd rather hire a 24 hr nurse to be in the house taking care of them. my house to be exact.
isn't it weird how the tables turn in life? your parents spend the first half of your life helping you grow up, wiping your ass, feeding & changing you, etc... and then you end up changing their diapers and feeding them once you're an adult. :stongue: |

Yep, it's sad...and that's exactly why we have nursing homes. People get old and they have so few social supports that these places have to exist. It's pretty heart-breaking. I've learned a lot about that kind of stuff this year. |

yea i drive by a nursing home on the way home from work/school everyday, there is always someone in a wheel chair waiting at the door, im guessing hoping someone is coming to visit them. |

haha that's so cute. my mom is like that because she constantly reads, so she has to have her little space on the patio with a nice view. |

my patio is seriously my favorite feature of my apartment. Rob and i have spent countless hours out there grillin/chillin/rollin/drinking/smoking/etc... it's gonna suck if i have to move back into a place with no "outside"! |
