"Anonymous Club Nights" the latest clubbing trend? (pg. 2)

I think the alure is much more then just the business model or the DJs.
It seems as if they are trying to build culture, which I can respect.

IMO if they kept the prices low enough, people would definitely show up. Its hard to pay for something, when you don't know if you are getting value for your money. As soon as they developed a strong following, and people realised that you get consistently good talent for the money you spent, it would catch on.

Neat idea though.

It would work for a community of hardcore EDM Fans (thats why most people here like the idea)....however, a big part of the Toronto scene is a be seen scene.

EDM music is the big Fad now....that's why you have all these bottle service bars opening up EDM nights....that is the crowd that won't go to a night like this...if the DJ isn't someone big and popular then it won't be the place to be seen and they won't show up.

you can see pretty much any DJ and they may not spin what you like that evening.

Like Communism, it's a good idea in theory, but will never work in practice.

i quite like the idea.

Having the marketing based on streamed media prior to the event is a good idea...but might not work for pple without inet...but who doesnt neways!

i would like to have such a nite close to home tho....driving to TO might be much for me for an unknown nite...

What about the DJs? Don't DJs want their names to be on the flyer to promote themselves? A DJ gets almost zero recognition if he spins at a club anonymously and few people recognize him. If a DJ does a good job, he's gonna want the clubbers to know and recognize him to create demand for him to return.

This is, of course, not true so much for big superstar DJs, but for the average guy who's just trying to get his name out there and get as many gigs as he can, this is crucial.

What? It's probably more important for the "superstar" DJs. You think someone like Tiesto or Sander would ever play at a night like this? They gotta promote their "brands".

For an up-and-coming DJ this would be a great way to develop their "sound". Then you got guys like Richie Hawtin who are BIG DJ's, but aren't so full of themselves that they wouldn't want to participate.

Well, the only reason I said that is because the BIG DJs have enough demand for their services that they probably won't care too much whether or not their name is put on the flyers. But I understand what you're saying about the top superstar DJs, tiesto and the like.

An amateur DJ would have a hard time getting anywhere if nobody knew who they were... they need those flyers and promos to get their name out to the world. But maybe some people don't care too much about that; they just wanna get paid and have a good time. Some don't even care if they get paid.

Eventually yes. But being able to master it in complete anonymity while still having a crowd does sound interesting. It's like you have your own little test subjects.

Sounds actually like a lotta fun. :D

I think it is a fabulous idea.

I like surprises.

i do like the idea... BUT...

there are certain dj's that i make a point to go and see everytime they come to town (eg. Chus & Ceballos). my work schedule needs to be changed if i am planning on going out to toronto. so if this club was to bring in a dj that i would normally go see, and i wasn't there because i was working and had no idea they were going to be there, i would be pretty pissed.
