buying locally is the new organic... if you have weekly farmer's markets, that's the ticket. these are small-scale growers who differentiate themselves by growing organic foods and it's always better to support these guys who are being swallowed alive every year by massive farming corporations. |

Careful with the word 'organic' though. A lot of definition is still rather vague in certain areas, especially seafood. The USDA has only recently (last few years) begun to crack down on certain standards. Always check for USDA Organic labels if you're not sure. |

Alot of these local farmers grow their fruits and vegetables organically by default. They just don't have the funds to obtain the organic certification from usda. If you don't know just ask. these folks are really proud of their produce and always welcome every opportunity to inform their customers.
Whenever I visit CA which is almost every other month, i would go to Whole Foods market and buy several half gallon RAW milk and bring it back home. Raw milk comes straight from the cow, no processing or heating. It's the most delicious milk there is. I'm lactose intolerant but i can drink raw milk like water. yummm :tongue3 |

I've noticed this, but not with organic milk from Trader Joe's. Has the same expiration date. I've always wondered why... |
How does the organic milk taste? Creamier or light? |

To me, honestly, the same. But it's great piece of mind for the sake of your health and the environment. =) |

It is the same milk. It is more expensive than "regular" milk because the cows it comes from are not pumped with RBGH (recombinant bovine growth hormone) and therefore produce milk in smaller volumes because they produce it in natural, healthy amounts vs. the 20 gallons a day that a cow treated with RBGH produces. |

During the 1930's, Dr. Francis M. Pottenger conducted a 10-year study on the relative effects of pasteurized and raw milk diets on 900 cats. One group received nothing but raw whole milk, while the other was fed nothing but pasteurized whole milk from the same source. The raw milk group thrived, remaining healthy, active and alert throughout their lives, but the group fed on pasteurized milk soon became listless, confused and highly vulnerable to a host of chronic degenerative ailments normally associated with humans, including heart disease, kidney failure, thyroid dysfunction, respiratory ailments, loss of teeth, brittle bones, liver inflammation, etc. Anyone see the link here? Is there a reason that the FDA will not conduct the long term studies? ..... its the money.

Milk causes cancer?
This taken from http://www.preventcancer.com/consumers/general/milk.htm
American dairy farmers inject RBGH to dairy cows to increase milk production.
European nations and Canada have banned RBGH to protect citizens from IGF-1 hazards.
Monsanto Co., the manufacturer of RBGH, has influenced U. S. product safety laws permitting the sale of unlabeled rBGH milk. (Monsanto would lose billions of dollars if RBGH were banned in America.) |

No unfortunately not. It's legal only in 28 states to sell raw milk and CA is one of them.

Too bad we don't have 9 lives like those poor cats fed pasteurized milk. So many food we once thought was healthy turned out to be hazardous to your health. we are continuously being deceived by the people we entrust (Pharmaceutical companies, medical doctors, USDA, FDA and the government) to protect us the consumers, all in the name of greed and corporate profits. You have to take control of your own health and not rely on anyone.
The problem with us humans is that by nature we don't live by the preventative model, instead we wait for sickness or disease to show up in our system then we seek help.
btw, cancer is now the number one cause of death surpassing heart disease. that's right it's in our food. someone said it here.. "cancer in a bun" |

Its a movie that kinda shows what happens at the meat packing plants where cattle is processed into the patties, sold to Fast Food Corporations.
Fast operating "lines" cause too many mistakes during the process, ie. intestinal fluids from the cattle are spilled over the meats...
basically, we're eating cow !
thats one example, not to mention the way they treat there employees...
watch the dvd... its really good, especially the special features |
Ahhh Just like the book but different..
I saw previews for this movie and wanted to see it.
I stay way away from Fast Food now.. I have taco hell once every blue moon. There is so much bad stuff in fast food not even the salads are good for you!!!
It is just so easy to eat and get it... I think healthy food should be made more affordable.. and made easier for people to get. And make fast food really $$$$ and harder to get... then maybe people would actually start eating better. |

I totaly agree with you on this. I can get a giant slice of pizza and a soda for lunch at work for $2.10, but it will cost me $5.60 to get a salad and a bottle of water. I read a study about American obesity that was very interesting. Researchers found that obesity is influenced by economic status more than any other factor. So basically the more money you have the better your diet. I don't want to dive into the whole political scheme of healthcare but the popular thought is that there is no money in healthy citizens....a very sad thing to me. Billions of dollars are spent on unhealthy foods so that America will turn around and spend billions more on healthcare and medication....a trillion dollar racket if you ask me. |
