Saw the movie last night, and it didn't impress me really. It was ok, but I wouldn't see it again.

The first half of the movie was pretty boring and I walked out of the theatre for a bit because I was too bored. It basically consisted of Gerard Butler yelling, and the Spartans killing. The second half of the movie got a little better with some surprising scenes.

Gerard Butler was a very bad choice for King Leonidas, and had they chosen a better actor, this movie might have had a chance. First of all, what was with the Scottish accent? I wasn't aware that Spartan kings were Scottsmen. Second, this guy was just a bad actor. He really made Leonidas' "motivational speaches" before battle sound very cheesy. "Tonight we dine in hell"? Come on... There were way too many of these speaches and it was getting a bit much by the end.

Much like most movies these days, the movie had cool visual effects, lots of violence, and a very simple story line. The idea was cool (300 men vs. an extremely large army), but there really wasn't much to the storyline at all.

6/10 for me.

It's because most movie goers have this kind of attitude that 9/10 movies shown in theatres today are crap. As long as you make a movie with either lots of explosions and killing, or a comedy based on akward social situations, you're guaranteed success.

I could understand how it would be boring but I wouldn't go in thinking it would be as good as say Gladiator. As for your accent comment Graham, that's like asking why all the villains in the Star Wars Trilogy (the original) are British/have British Accents.
smuncky
did anyone see it in an IMAX?

i seriously doubt any movie will beat Gladiator, especially 300, where it was all about scenery and effects

This movie is based on a comic book. These kind of "cheesy" lines are just what makes a comic book what it is. You don't go to Hooters for the wings (despite what you might tell the wife) and you certainly don't go see a Frank Miller movie for the plot nuances and character development. The movie was artistic, enthralling and captivating. Exactly what I pay my 10$ to see. 8.5/10

Don't lecture me about comic books, lol. I was a huge Frank Miller fan and have a ton of his comics sitting in my garage. I thought Sin City was extremely well done, even though I was extremely skeptical due to it being one of my favourite comic books. 300 just didn't cut the mustard. What made the lines cheesy was the fact that Gerald Butler was not good for the roll at all.

Are you suggesting that someone looking for character development and plot nuances shouldn't look to Frank Miller works? Would you care to explain Batman: The Dark Knight Returns then?
