Dilemma @ work:

Okay, I've been assistant manager at this gasoline station, and I'm pretty tired of working there; the pay is really (well for all the crap i do), the neighborhood surrounding the place is basically a ghetto area (no need to explain), and so on.

Right, so like, i went today to work and I told my boss I was already going to leave the place in search of another place to work at, so, I'd be out of there in two weeks tops.

Then, she blurts out to me that she's pregnant and that she would need me there to take over while she was on leave.... and I was like... dammit.

So, basically, she explained to me that the place would go to e if i left because all the other employees suck--at doing the management stuff (reports, invoices, inventory, etc.)

And now, I dont know what to do 1) quit 2) stay, help out while she's out.

if you think she was nice and fair to you while you worked there... and u built a friendship (doesnt have to be a "out of work" friendship)... i say do it.

but if you really dont care about her and hate the job. leave.
lücid
tell her that you'll need a pay raise if she expects you to stay there and handle all the responsibilites while she's away.
wizniz
or take nachoes option #2 except stay and ask to pay more
chach
ask for a raise

yeah, she was nice.... and we did build a friendship and so on, and I actually started feeling kind of sad of leaving because i got attached to the place and other employees...

but, i REALLY despise being there, now:(

If you want to leave, leave. There is nothing worse than working a job you don't like accompanied with a pay for your lifestyle. Just because she get knocked up it's shouldn't be your responsibility to keep the place in tiptop shape.

maybe its worth helping her out then.. if she was nice and u build a profesional friendship...

if u want to go the way the others are saying.. add lucids idea to mine.

stay but tell her u were leaving cause u need a payraise.. get it and stay and help her out. tell her u need the money for bills and that , that was the reason u were leaving.

It's a gas station. It will go on without you. Unless you are/feel obligated to this person, go. Not much is worse than being miserable at work.

kid nyce
i think you should sit down with her and work this out because in the end you're going to want to leave but you are doing this as a favor to her in respect for the friendship you two have.

ask for a pay raise, then set a time line, and agree on it. for all you know she may say ok to the pay raise, then be out on maternity leave for like 9 months.

cover your bases and you should be fine, atleast it'll allow you some lead time to start looking for another job all while making extra money at the gas station
