Access Virus. Is it worth it? (pg. 3)

Is the Virus TI worth it?

Is it worth it to buy a Ferrari? Some would say yes, others would say no. It's entirely dependent on what you find valuable. Others instead of buying a Ferrari might want to invest their money into a nice home and drive a Honda -- which would be a fine thing to do as well.

The bottom line, the person is enjoying life - the person with the Virus TI or alternative is enjoying music.

In the studio, I have a selection of synths I can use.

I play live with a Yamaha RS7000 and Access Virus TI.

RS7000 does the drums and vocals, the virus all synth work.

I haven't turned my JP-8080 on in the last month, and my flatmate has been borrowing my Juno 106 and Waldorf Q for about 6 months.

The TI fits in extremely well in my work flow.

It's not the be all and end all of synthesizers, but as a very good, competent workhorse in your studio, which you can reach for wheter it's leads, bass, strings or pads, she's awesome.

i have gone from recording music using pure hardware, to pure software and i intend on going back to hardware and purchasing a virus asap. the convienience of the virus is the power of it... and the power outweighs the problems of having to bounce all you do on it.

can someone tell me.. with the Ti, does the vst software allow you to work it like a vst until you require a bounce?

I think you should make tracks already, which uses the performance of what a VST`s can do. There is no point in buying a TI if you havent completed a single track, or you just have started producing.

If you are making music and you think the VSTs simply doesnt sound good enough to your liking I would have bought one, but its not a wondermachine, you still have to compose, arrange, and mix it all together.

I've got 109 finished tracks thank you very much. :p All done is software.
I'm actually working on an album scheduled to be released later this year. That's the main reason I'm thinking of getting a Virus. To increase workflow and get a better sound. It would be my first synth ever so I'm trying to get it right.

in that case, dont hesitate one second.. get it right away.. get it immedietly.. order it now!!

Just got my first hardware synth a week ago, and let me tell you.. VST doesnt sound remotely close to the sounds im getting from this thing, music is much more fun to do now, and i love programming synths with the hands on approach.

If u have the money.. BUY IT!!!

the virus isn't going to make your music sound better. Buy it because you have extra money or because you want to treat yourself but it isn't going to make or break you as an artist. I have a virus and i still use software more often than not. I find alot of guys get into the if i buy a virus , it will make me not suck boat.I personnaly think the virus is as pretty standard sounding synth that most software can duplicate. Get something analogue and get something that isn't used by every trance producer and their cat.

I'm not naive. I don't expect, or need, miracles. What I do expect is an improvemet. And I'm pretty sure it will be better than using an avergage VSTi. In any other thread I'd be the first person who would tell you everything can be done in software. I still belive that to be true. But seriously, for 2000$ it MUST have good sound.

Anyway, thanks for all the help. I'll see if I can "steal" one next week

Didn't you just answer your question here yourself? :p

that was my point. There really isn't such a thing as better. Only different. Sure you might get some different sounds but they won't be better. A virus won't make your music sound better. I'm not saying it isn't worth having but i would definately place it at the bottom of the list of things to get. I would personnaly spend the 2000$ on monitors if yo don't already have nice ones.

Yes, you did actually. I would get a virus, just because I dont get the sounds i want from the VST instruments.

Yes, it will work just like a vst. you will have to bounce in real time, which isnt really no problem.

I'm a Cakewalk Sonar 6 user, and I have read about some issues with the USB connection to the Virus TI when using Sonar.

I was really considering the TI, but if I have to hook it up the old fashioned way, I'm going to need even more hardware - a decent mixer and audio interface. I'm going to start a new thread on this topic...

I'm all software right now, and I would really like the Virus sound. I am considering a firewire TC Powercore with the Virus Indigo VST. I know its basically a Virus B, but I think it still sounds wonderful. Additionally, the plugins I would get with the powercore are phenomenal.

Thought/opinions about the TC Powercore and Virus VST?
