And yes Im gonna call you dense, how could you have not seen the obvious solution? Think OUTSIDE the grid, man. |
actually cubase does that automatically :) It figures out the latency and then sends midi info to midi-out busses a little earlier :) |

| yea after awhile midi latency changes though and its off and u still gotta adjust the midi track sometimes. even with external instruments in sx 3.1. |

So it's versitaile enough to make and entire tune just using Virus? Bass, pads, leads, FX? |
Absolutely.
I have a couple of releases out that used 0 hardware, just a couple of VST instruments and samples, and I've yet to release anything since I've purchased the Virus, so don't expect it to just write a track for you or something (though granted, the only reason I haven't is because I'm lazy/busy, and completely switched sequencers at the same time I got my TI so there was a double learning curve).
That said, the sounds that come out of the thing are amazing, and I'm pretty much a novice when it comes to making my own patches. Basically I can browse patch banks for hours happily, find something that I want to play around with, then spend another few hours tweaking that sound. Sometimes I come up with a perfect variation, other times I come up with something wildly different that I could have never dreamed up on my own.
Workflow wise, the only real difference to VSTs is that you have to record the sound into an audio track before bouncing it off. Took a bit of getting used to since I came from 100% software beforehand, but it's really not a big deal at all.
Like I said, well worth it if you have the cash and can see yourself being interested in music production for some time. I love coming home at night to an otherwise dark apartment and seeing this thing pulsing on my desk :toothless |

Well, I went ahead and got the Virus TI Desktop :D
My next door neighbor works for a big music store chain here in the U.S. and got $500 off of it for me. It lists for about $1995, and I got it for $1500. Since I got this deal, I went ahead and got the $200 2-year warranty plan. And, I got it tax free here in Texas (composers get music stuff tax free in my state).
$1700 US isn't that bad for a TI Desktop (with a full 2 year extra warranty) if you ask me. I feel I got a good deal on it. |
