Thought/opinions about the TC Powercore and Virus VST?

I've never used the Powercore, but initial thoughts are:

1) Cost of TI versus cost of Powercore.

2) The Virus Powercore is based on the Virus B (or C) and I understand it comes in two different versions, a kind of LE and a full on version... but don't quote me on that.

3) Redundancy of TI versus Powercore. Whats the life scale of the Powercore?

4) Additional plug-ins would cost more money... again, not sure on prices etc; but say, you may be able to buy elsewhere for that kind of money.

Also bear in mind Access constantly update their firmware, so maybe any Sonar problems will be fixed soon? I'm a Cubase user, so know nothing about Sonar)

great synths, good support forums, recommend it!

do you not have latency issues with your Virus C?

I have the same problem so right now my Virus B is collecting as lot of dust - I was thinking about running it through Cubase and rewiring Cubase to Ableton. A bit of hassle but probs worth it as I'll be able to use my hardware synth

hardware synths don't have latency. It is your soundcard that is causing that. Just adjust the midi track triggering the synth so that things are in sync.

After reading this entire thread, you guys have me seriously thinking now about the TI. What price did you guys pay? I'm seeing it about $2,500 online is that about what you all paid for it new? Finally can someone point out the major abilities the TI has over the older C? I currently am software only and would love to get into the hardware arena.

Are you dense boy? You advance the midi track based on tempo and MIDI note division. That means you PLAY THE SOUNDS EARLIER TO COMPENSATE.

i have bought my TI when they first came out at Guitar Center in Buffalo.Back then it cost me $1650 US including tax.
i was not able to see deal like that anywhere else and it has been a while since they been out what is up with that????

Depends on what you mean by better. The biggest thing the Virus has going for it is workflow and lots of routability.

The bad things about the Virus are: weak oscillators (the square and PWM square are particularly feeble as are most of the wavetables), poor filter saturation emulation, poor sounding distortion, a unison which sounds more like a chorus than a unison.

Also, the filter sounds nice but it doesn't sound anything like an analogue filter so its really bad at emulating analogue sounds with filter modulation. The saw wave oscillator for instance sounds almost exactly like a minimoog saw wave but its very difficult to make a minimoog type sound because the filter always gives it away.

I personally think that impOSCar has way better sounding oscillators than the Virus does. Its just no contest. But the Virus has lots of programmability and its awesome for harmonically complex sounds and ambience.

so do you mean i should shift the midi channel around to compensate for me virus being faster or slower?

mmmmmmmmmm - that might just work!

and don;t call me dense - there's no need to be rude. But then I s'pose your just calling me that cause you think your safe in your little bedroom and it makes you feel hard. you'll grow up one day.......

This is just from another forum, but read it and it should help you decide what to buy..

1- What is the MOST you could spend?

2- Is there a more powerful choice just over your budget? If so, save a little more!

3- What type of music are you going to make?

4- Is a Keyboard a priority or would a rack do?

5- Are you prepared for repair bills? If not then DO NOT buy a Vintage unit.

6- Is the synth you are looking at capable of been expanded?

7- Are there more features than you need, if so this is GOOD!!!

8- Read as many REVIEWS as possible, these are not always as subjective as personal views.

9- TRY one out, not always possible, but you can HIRE stuff you know!

10- Dont think that a new synth will cure your musical faliures.

11- Most synths, and I will say that again "MOST" synths can produce the SAME sounds as each other!!!

12- Have you already got this type of synth in your set up? Do you need another?

13- Lusting after the latest in technology is a BAD thing.

14- Get to know what gear you have already, you will then know EXACTLY what you are missing/in need of!

15- Dont worry about what gear other people have, it does you NO GOOD!!

Some might not apply to you....

That's exactly what I meant, how could you have not seen that before?

And yes Im gonna call you dense, how could you have not seen the obvious solution? Think OUTSIDE the grid, man.
