Review PvD @ Space (pg. 2)

Here is my official review.
I got to space rather early to avoid any kind of line fiasco since this was a sold out event.
Space staff actually turned people around who did not have tickets. They said no entry whatsoever unless you had a presale. This kinda ruined the vibe for the first part of Edgar Vs set since it took a bit to fill up the club since only presale entrys were being allowed in.
I for the first time agreed with the staff at space in a long time. I have never seen a bouncer turn someone away offering a grand to get two people in until this night. Peoples only option at this point was to team up with people they didnt know and go in on a vip table.
I got in right when they opened the doors at 10:45. They were having problems with their generator so could not get people in the door using their credit card scanning device for people with will call tickets. Edgar V played an extremely nice warm up set and then some. It actually had to be the best Edgar set I had ever heard and for this I give him the set of the night. His set was extremely progressive and included some good techy stuff. Since I am saying exactly how I felt and I am giving a good review I will say that his set lost some energy between 1 and 2am. I am guessing this was from him not even knowing when Paul would get there. The club has a nice addition, LED boards fully programmed into their lighting system. These are dimmable and produced 7 extremely bright colors. These were a nice touch to space. The sound system was also well tuned.
Paul got on at 2:10am and started off extremely banging. I honestly was so banging in the beginning I thought it was going to be better than November 4th 2005. Paul has really gotten comfortable with Ableton and has a ton of wikkid bass line and beat loops. The tracks were extremely strong and energetic.
The crowd kinda died off due to a couple of things halfway through his set. The terrace fiasco being one. Everyone realizing they probably would not get into the terrace if they didnt try at that point. Paul also went into a much slower BPM and more housey track selection. Things like Mindcircus G&D remix. This kills the space crowd. It worked in NYC when he played last month but I could have told him it wouldnt work at space. None the less it happened. It seemed that most of the people in the mainroom loved the cheesy crap and he played two of his crappy classics to include Nothing but you (blechhhhhh). Whatever good he did was ruined in his last hour or two. I can understand the moving to the slower side during the middle of his set as it is what he does for his extended sets but to continue off it with crap cheese trance was unacceptable. I can say this, the first two hours was phenomenal, it really seemed like he made the bassline loops specifically for space. He even tried to use them on the cheesy crap but it was of no use to me. He had many many different ones though. The sound also was turned down during the middle of his set, I think because the firemarshall was there but later on the sound was resumed at its normal level.
When he got off at 6:15 I immediately made a mad dash for the stairs to get to the terrace. After waiting in line for a little while I decided it was be in my best interest to grease a bouncer. I offered up a small amount of money and got right on up. I normally dont promote this but Oscar Gs set was more minimal than the house I hear in Charlotte, I could not take it any more.
Apparently the situation at the front entrance had taken a turn for the worse and the presale line was the same as the general admission line. People had to end up waiting or paying a lot of money to get in.
Up on the Terrace things were happening as expected. People in a steady groove, dancing and having fun. The music was good, nothing extremely memorable but definitely good and on point. I dont think I heard Sander slip once on the decks for the 4 hours I listened to him. The crowd seemed to be in a good mood too because I didnt notice any fights break out. The upstairs appeared to be at capacity the entire time I was up there.

A lot of people fail to realize that PvD is done! WOW
it's like beating a dead horse...you keep going to see him because he's PvD and thinking he MIGHT bring it better than last time or w.e
fact is PvD isn't the same anymore and he won't be for that matter.
The last GREAT time I had @ a PvD event was November 2005 which was right after he won #1 DJ for the first time...after that show I was amazed and knew why he was my #1...after he came to Spirits in Jan 06 was by far the worst show I've ever seen. Then came WMC 06 which wasn't that much better, a bit better towards the end but it took him 2 hours to build into the set.
He came twice after last years WMC and I didn't even make the effort to go and that wasn't like me because I used to get so excited when I knew PvD was coming into town.
Some people think that because he plays a few IDs or good tracks that he "brings it" yeah w/e. Brining a good show has a lot more to it then a FEW good tunes.
After winning #1 it was the beginning of the end for him.
and frankly the worst part was how RIDICULOUS the price of this years show...all sold out and from what I heard no door tix were even being sold...that was never heard of.
So many cons that I can say that I'd never see PvD again here in Miami unless it's non WMC and I'm bored.
I've seen another DJ that has taken his spotlight and isn't even that well known.
RIP PVD |

| I don't get it....PVD is always good in NYC....how come he always sucks in Miami??? Well at least during the conference. I was not there but past few years he never impressed me in Miami. |

I thought PvD was good until about 4AM...
...mind you, I haven't heard him live since June 2004 (he hasn't come to Toronto since) so I can't really complain. |

I know I wasn't there this year so I dont know how he played..maybe if someone posted a tracklisting??
I've seen him at WMC in 04 and 05. Boths sets were awesome I thought. Every time I've seen him in Miami were great too. I don't understand?? |

| PVD is the worst!!If he keeps dropping the same then he's going to die a slow death as we are seeing now.I couldnt wait to walk upstairs for Sander to hear a real dj spin.I used to love PVD like three years ago but F##K he is spinning the same set that he did 3 years ago.And Mr.V needs to be the headliner with PVD opening to put people to sleep and show us the same tracks that he has been spinning for years, because we havent herd them before. |

For that reason I don't think PvD is done.
Lis i have to disagree with you.
He brought it nasty when he played on the space patio.. and november was awesome. He prob played 2 old tracks.
He brings harder than any dj back2back.
everyone here knows pvd has got the craziest schedule [as a trance dj]
he has tons of energy when he plays in miami [not wmc cuz i've never seen him wmc]
The last 2 times before this.. PvD absolutely brought it. Even considering he had to cut his set short because he had to go to the airport at 5 am.
You know if it wasn't cuz of that he would have played a consistant banging set. He starts off fast and hard and ends it the same. ;)
edit-PvD does not play the same set he played 3 years ago. PvD might play his own productions from 3 years ago but how else can he keep the poser fan base?? You know every dj is guilty of playing their biggest tunes. It's what made him famous to the poser world.
If he does play the same set in a few different places it's OUR own fault for keeping upto date with the music and what he played in NYC/or where ever.
How else would we hear the PvD re-works if he doesn't whore it out. He's the only person who ever has those. If u want to hear a track that 100 other dj's can play.. Or Do u wanna hear the sick re-work from the man? ;) |

I didn't go to the one he played on the patio and the one in Nov. & I get where people say he was great and what not...like I said I'd go see him in a NON WMC event.
Point is, he doesn't bring it for WMC like he SHOULD...for god sake its WMC & the prices are outta hand.
I just dont think he does it for me anymore...I'd go see him OUT of Miami but it's not the old PvD I loved.
He still plays the same tracks over & over and I am tired of that plus it's a HASSLE to see him because of how packed/expenive things are.
I just see more cons than pros but that's just me. |
