The people who are all sure he won't return to awesomeness - did you listen to Music For Elevators off the Stoned In Love single?

Abso-ing-lutely brilliant. He can still do the FFMC sound well.

+ 1

I really like Music For Elevators, but another FFTMC i think is too much, in some way I doubt that this happens.

How can you say this? I would die for an album with that kind of sound again. I miss it.

Same here, but I think it should sound a bit "updated", obviously. That album is 10 years old now, but still sounds timeless. But I could certaintly see him getting into progressive breaks or melodic progressive house stuff. Some of the stuff i've been into the past year and a half has been melodic progressive house, like on Toes In The Sand, Tilth, Existence etc. I just think it's the closest to that sound, and Solar Stone's music is pretty close i'de say.

His sound already back in 1997 was pretty "progressive". He combined breakbeats, ambience, melody and trance/house-like beats to create something unique and emotive. I think with "Stoned In Love" he lost all of that, and resorted to vocal pop, which would be fine under a different name, but not the sound we've known from Chicane (except well with Don't Give Up and Strong In Love, but those were much better vocal tracks that worked better than "Stoned In Love").

I love FFTMC, is in my top 5 fav CDs, I only said that I do not believe that he release a new album like this again, but Music For Elevators proves that if he want he can make, but based on Easy To Assemble and Stoned In Love i don't know, let's wait and to see, it would be wonderful if he make Somersault a new FFTMC.

Let's hope he does ;)

I think I read somewhere that he said the next album is just a loose collection of pop songs like Stoned In Love.

To me, DJ Shah/Sunlounger is really doing what an updated Balearic sound would sound like today. Just that he is less ambient I guess.

Music for elevators was boring, not brilliant. At least it wasnt a pop song though.

I love it how before he said "I got fed up with bad dance records and pop records with no substance just being churned out one after the other"

And now he's doing exactly what he said he hates.

I'm not quite sure whether DJ Shah can be named the next Chicane. Sunlounger tunes are always based on guitar samples which become boring. 'Savannah La Mar', 'Palma Rosa' or 'Salty Waters' in their original mixes didn't contain guitar samples and sounded nice, so maybe that's the right path Shah should step onto. As long as it doesn't happen I still hope for Chicane's FFTMC-styled album, blah, even if it happens I'll be looking forward to hear Somersault.
