edit // What Ben said. I make about that if not a little bit more and I'm struggling.

Its all about the cost of living.

40ish in a large city does not equal 40ish in a suburb does not equal 40ish in a smaller town.

40ish in San Fransisco (or wherever you are):

Salary in San Francisco CA: $40,000
Comparable salary in Champaign-Urbana IL: $22,765.96

ie

if you move from Champaign-Urbana IL to San Francisco CA...

Groceries will cost: 51.582% more
Housing will cost: 229.391% more
Utilities will cost: 22.026% less
Transportation will cost: 14.004% more
Healthcare will cost: 27.201% more

So we should only institute a half-Communist economic policy. Not quite Soviet Russia, but enough to pass off as being the same.

if you make 100 million dollars, that means you're already giving away 45-50 million dollars in taxes--you're making more of a contribution than several thousand other people are. I'd say that's more than enough.

Nobody's saying this guy should be ed over or even be obligated to contribute, only that he's a ing scumball selfish prick who, if it were a perfect world, should think about being more generous and charitable with his cash.

The difference is that when I get there, Im not going to change point of view. At that point, yes, tax me more than my 23 year old daughter who is trying to make a life for herself.

and therein lies the problem. The main issue nowadays is not that the tax percentages are so incredibly out of whack as it is that 150,000 isn't what it was when that standard was put into place, nor are the rest of the levels of income. What they need to do is bump up the levels that people get taxed at--not shift the already skewed percentage increases.

It shouldnt be mandatory that I be taxed this much, either. We could argue all day.

That's a little unfair.
