I see a whole lot of them dead on the roads all the time

most animals, when they know theyre going to die, hide away somewhere safe and reclusive so they can die alone.

so unless they get killed by humans, cars, other animals, lightning, terrorists, etc.. my guess is that most dead squirrels chill out in places where people aren't usually looking.

Zoo officials suspect the monkey caught the disease from the carcass of an infected squirrel it may have eaten.

No squirrels over here, dead or alive

When I was in college we had an albino squirrel that frequented the common area. I'm not sure if other squirrels discriminated against him/her or not. We never discussed the topic.

No clue as to his/her mortality. I am of the belief that they simply vaporize when their time is up.

my brother just theorized they get the bubonic plague, climb up a tree, jump off and then explode.

This is a possibility.
