Disclaimer:
I have absolutely nothing against those who are gay, lesbian, bisexual or otherwise. Whatever they do in the privacy of their own space is none of my business, and I hold nothing against any of them. In fact, one of my best friends is a lesbian.
So why did I make this thread? Well at work this evening, the subject of homosexuality came up between my boss and I. He is 77, and is Greek Orthodox christian; very old fashioned. I don't agree with a lot of the he spouts off, but whatever, he is an old, cranky man.
Anyway, like I said, we were talking, and he said what I quoted above...
I stopped the conversation there. I was infuriated. I couldn't believe he would dare say something like this. Like... WTF???
He also said:
"Any person who legalizes the marriage for people like that deserve to be shot."
and
"All those ******s and dykes should be dead."
When I tried to defend them, he asked me accusingly, "ARE YOU A LESBIAN?".
The most ironic thing about all of this... he shares the building with the only gay bar in town. OHHHH AND the other girl who works there is a lesbian, and has a girlfriend (but he doesn't know that).
I was recently hired at a new company (I am just waiting for the call to let me know when training starts,) so I wont have to be there much longer, but I almost wonder if I should say something to someone about this?
Gah!!
Thoughts?

Bah he's old and set in his ways, just be glad that things are different now, and people are becoming more tolerant than they used to be.
There's no sense getting worked up over old coots like this. You may not agree with them...but you have to understand that's how most people thought back then, and to him what he's saying is good and true. |
