well well well, DJ equipment eh... so i've been on the market for a few months now searching for some gear. i've been looking for the most part. im pretty much a beginner DJ but i have a slight idea about the basic fundamentals of DJ'ing considering i have played on my buddy's decks here and there. as much as i would kill to have a DJM 600 and some CDJ1000's in my basement, its really not the rational choice. so! heres what im looking at for now, comments are welcome, good or bad...

Thanks for all the replies guys, I really appreciate your help and time :)
The Xone is interesting. I've seen a video of the filters effects on the Xone:92 (way too expensive for me but anyway) and that is impressive. It does nearly the same thing as effects the DJM-400 but the Xone seems to be more "complex". I don't really know how to say what I mean hehe I guess I'd have to try a DJM and a Xone to see which one I like better.
Now I'm wondering if I should go for the CDJ-800 or 200. Many people told me to go for the 800, it was worth it even for a beginner (I've been 3 years a sound tech and have been a dj for about a year within these 3 so I know how it works but I ain't a pro). On the other hand, other people told me the 800 was not worth it compared to the 200...heh. By the way, I'm talking about MK2 devices because I want mp3 support. :)
As for the headphones, Markus recommended me the Technics 1200 over the HDJ-1000. Any advise on that choice ? I know both are really great, but I never tried them. I know headphones are a very personnal opinion but I always listen to others opinions :)
Thanks for the stores guys. I'll look around. I guess I can't go below 1500$ with my basic setup (posted in my first post) but with my new setup (CDJ-800MK2 and Xone:32 or DJM-400) I'm near the 2k...
Thanks for all the advices again guys :) |

Thanks I'll keep that in mind. :)
I'm not in a hurry to buy, I need to settle many things before.
I updated my first topic to let you know the details after I chatted with Markus and Moeva a bit ! |

I've owend a pair of tech RP 1200s. They are... ok.
Mine broke, after I put it through a lot of abuse though. Last around a yr. The sound quality is decent, but the ear piece is not big enough to completely cover your ears, esp. if you got big ears. It's not very comfortable to wear for a long period of time. Also, it is more expensive than Sony 7506.
Listen to Greg. Get 7506! :p
PS: If you want more opinions, check out the DJ forum and run a search on the topic you're looking for |

Gear isn't important Neo Hacker, so take everyone's suggestions on "the best gear for a beginner" with a grain of salt.
All I use is a box with knobs on it and my computer, I have 2 other midi controllers that are just sitting around collecting dust, and my soundcard is also collecting dust but I will need that one day (I hope).
My suggestion = Decent pair of headphones, some USED CDJ-100s or 200s, and a ty 2 channel mixer that's cost effective and isn't behringer.
Keep an eye out at moog, they constantly have used for sale, and also check kijjiji and craigslist REGULARLY and only buy from Montreal people, ONLY. |

There's only so much you can do with retarted delays and flangers!
There is a lot of cool stuff one can do with EQs, a lot of essential stuff that is important to learn before effecting the out of a mix, me personally I dont use many effects just because im still very new to the whole thing and don't want to lose my focus during a mix cause I'm playing with a filter-echo-delay-flanger-phaser-repeat effect. I swear that's a real effect.
And I spose it doesn't have to be a TY 2-channel mixer, a Nuo-2 would be sweet, or even a nuo-3 so that way he can go buy a $200 Kaoss pad if he really wants to play with effects after "six months", instead of buying a whole new mixer. |

If the guy knows he's investing in equipment and has already played with a simple setup... why is he getting the same equipment? Wouldn't the logical progression be to buy equipment for the long run? He doesn't wanna have to pay for another unit in 6 months... he wants to buy something that has everything!!!

markus you make a good point but as I said, I have the fundamental basics down but inevitably I need to practise and literally master those skills. like c'mon dude, whats the point of buying a DJM400 as your first mixer. I only play about once or twice everyone two weeks so I figured I figured if its all about progress I should start small and make my way up. hope this makes sense lol.. what the! But listen no one commented on the equipment im getting! I wanna hear something else rather than "ty mixer" lol... i'll post the link again.... http://www.axemusic.com/product.asp...13378&PT_ID=149
