Looks as though Avalon and Axis will become one bigger club. I dont know how its all going to work out and if things are gonna be the same with bookings etc. Maybe it will bring new life to the scene around here...We'll see what happens.
I started going out to clubnights in avalon/axis back in 01/02 so this kinda makes me a little sad haha. I know many people on this board started clubbing there as well. |

| i've been to avalon/axis many times and never felt that place was special at all, no offense to the boston people-- because wherever you build memories, those places usually become special. anyway, it's probably gonna get tier. don't shoot the messenger. |

| I miss the Deep Dish bi-monthly residency @ Axis. I wasnt around (too young) for the stories I heard of Sander K/Nick Warren/Oakenfold/PVD/Digweed destroying axis back in the glory days of the chrome nights. Chrome/Culture @ Axis Nights from way back were some of the first major edm nights in the usa. John Debo who did the bookings brought the big names into Boston for the first time. Axis went downhill a long time ago but it along with Avalon were major reasons why I dj today and have a love for this music. It was a special place around the turn of the century and has been going downhill for awhile now unfortunately. |

I am turning 23 in 3 weeks. I've been going to avalon/axis since i was 16. Regularly going to avalon since i was 17 (junior year of high school). I used to get into Karma as well which is now where Jake Ivorys Piano Bar is located(Next To axis) because my friend was a bouncer at several lansdowne clubs. Square One Nights @ Axis (2003 to 2004) were the major part of me getting then getting into progressive house and house music in general after being mostly a trance guy ie. seeing the likes of pvd/guy orandel/dave ralph (when he used to play trance)/sandra collins/digweed/joof. God now I really feel old. BTW Lunasea I believe u were at the PVD night when he was doing his "global" tour back in early 2003. That still was one of my best nights ever along with the halloween weekend in 2002 when PVD/CASSIUS/CARL COX were there. Thats the kind of lineups avalon had....Awesome djs on thursday nights/fridays/saturdays. Also it was cool to be able to walk into axis and have someone like Deep Dish spinning while Ferry Corsten was spinning in the main room of avalon. Not many places have that kind of option or brought that kind of talent consistently (Big Names and Underground Talent) Avalon had a really cool laser and themed nights weekly with alot of effort put into the production. It was a special place to alot of people and frequented by people all over new england to get their edm fix. I know I'm not the only person who felt that way :)NYC people had twilo and wherever but Boston had Avalon and Axis. The only thing that has consistently held us back from competing with new york is the ing 2am curfew bull that still exists from the puritan era...lame |

That's where my clubbing days started, way back when
Lots of good ol' times, when I could do a night of clubbing without spending any money
Let's see what memories I have from there:
First time I went to Axis was in 1995, for the Culture night, spun by Tym Ryan (and John Debo was another resident, but wasn't there that night). The first "big" DJ that I remember seeing spin live was Josh Wink, when he played there.
I wasn't able to go to Avalon til much later, since it was 21+ for most nights. First time I went there was for an Everything But The Girl concert. After Avaland first started, DJ's like Doc Martin, Erick Morillo and David Morales packed the place. They once opened their doors at something early like 9 pm for Junior Vasquez.
I also went to Venus de Milo (next door to Axis) in its last year or 2 before it was changed to Karma.
Next to Avalon was the Playhouse, which later became Modern and Embassy.
During this time, Liquid Todd did the "Spin Cycle" show on WFNX.
Also, although not on Lansdowne, the first club in Boston that I both went to and DJ'ed at was Europa, which later became Absolut/Buzz. What is it now?
Too bad The Loft and its afterhours party closed down before I had a chance to go there. |
