We (TriLektro PhunK) were the first to book him here in Toronto along with Chris Lake at Butterfly for 'BUMP' Thursdays way back on April 19th, 2007, now everyone else is going crazy booking him & working with him. Joel is amazing in many ways hence the reason we brought him here so long ago....

umm... bro.. that was 90 days ago. hardly "so long ago"

and I would say that your booking on a thursday at butterfly is far from the reason joel is getting gigs. He's getting gigs because he's one of the hottest producers on the planet right now. he's responsible for the gigs, not a thursday night gig at butterfly 90 days ago.

and re the other post about people only supporting the "main players in the city", this is true and it's because they've been around longer and spent years building up their reputation. I don't know of any successful promoter or club in this part of the industry that had instant success which lasted. All the ones that manage to stick around toughed it out through some hard times and sunk a lot of money and hard work into their ventures at the beginning.

:whip:  :whip:

hahaha. classic!

Jeez Joel, I'm a bit disappointed. Here I was thinking you were a talented producer and great live artist, but all along you were just being booked to play based on what a promoter thought of you.

Sheesh. Apparently the rest of the world was fooled too.

On the upside, congrats on the booking for MOS, I guess you can thank your 'sole' Toronto promoter for hooking that up right?

lol... give me a break.

It would be nice to have some good honest people work together to get some solid nights back in Toronto (besides the mainstream clubs & djs.) Give other locals a chance WHO really deserve a shot for people to hear them play their own sound, and compare to the sounds the deejays EVERYONE in the city are hearing every weekend.

There are tonnes of different events happening in this city every weekend. 2 weeks ago I counted 24 events listed just on tribe.ca.. that doesn't include all the different ones listed on TA, TR, torontonightclub.com, hype1, garagehouse music, breakbeats.ca and torontojungle among others.

Those "DJs that everyone is hearing every weekend" have in many cases been doing what they do for upwards of a decade. They've paid their dues to be the DJs that everyone hears every week. They worked for that , went out every weekend with a smile on their face and promoted the out of themselves. Maybe instead of whining about them, you should make freinds and get some advice? just a thought.

We have alot of amazing talent and I think the scene could be so much stronger & successful if people could be civil, drop whatever beefs they have and do it for the music, and deejays can play whatever clubs they like......not for $$$ or because they work for certain people.

Unfortunately the music doesn't feed your family or contribute to your RRSP. Do you think CIBC would be cool with their "employees" working part time on the side for RBC? doubltful. Would Best Buy be cool with their employees working nights for The Source? also highly unlikely. Fact is, this is a legitimate industry in which many people have invested millions of dollars and years of hard work. People who have made this industry their career need to protect their investments and their lively hood. The same way you would in any other industry. Business is business, and if it wasn't for the mighty dollar, then this "scene" would not exist. No clubs, no djs, there wouldn't be record labels, no dj equipment etc..

Bottom line, if you don't like the way something is being done, then do it yourself. Which i understand you have been, and I commend you for that. Keep doing what you're doing. Be positive, never talk and always smile. It's a lot easier to catch flys with honey.
