In other words, you're writing it off because it hasn't "taken off", aka broken into the mainstream like rap has. Like I said, that's not really fair. It takes more than 4-5 years to properly establish a genre within the mainstream, and considering how far grime has gotten in such a short space of time, I find it unlikely that it will simply die out now.

no you're putting words into my mouth, it has neither the variation or the mass appeal that rap has, so won't take off in a major way IMO (thank )
and as distant says, don't lump dubstep and grime together, as it's very unfair on dubstep |

| beatport recently added dubstep to their list of genres, because skream (brilliant dub producer) remixed a tune for Mark Ashken on leftroom records and they filed it under minimal.. |

Great record. I had been waiting for it to be released for about 5 months. Finally picked it up a week ago. The "Roots Dyed Dark" remix has one of the heaviest basslines in dubstep. |

From the samples posted here, dubstep sounds okay I guess. Haven't heard anything that seemed to merit too much attention, though.
MCs generally annoy the hell out of me, so I can't stand grime. |

These were pretty good:
Some of the Toastyboy stuff I listened to was cool, too. |

This thread needs a bump.
So is the dubstep scene strictly in the UK now, or has it spread to other areas of Europe as well? I noticed that several dnb dj's from San Fran have started spinning it here at parties. Seems like it's gonna take off here shortly. |

I know of one club here in Prague that has a semi-regular dubstep night. Mala from Digital Mystikz played here months ago but I unfortunately missed it :( If it was now and I knew about it, I would have gone for sure.
EDIT: Also, I have to say I really like the way Burial's new tracks (Ghost Hardware, Unite) sound; it got me into dubstep and made me want to hear more. His 'rainy-night-in-London' type tracks from his selftitled debut are gorgeous as well though. This kinda convinced me that dubstep's able to offer some seriously emotional and wonderful music. |
