Can someone tell me why this game is so frigging popular? As far as I can tell it's an above average 1st person shooter. The story is better than most 1st person shooter's, the graphics are okay, the mechanics are solid enough I guess - but none of the Halos have done anything new and haven't even done that much really well. I mean, Gears of War didn't bring anything new to the table, but it did just about everything really, really well - I can understand its popularity.
So without any innovation or revolution in terms of game playing, why does Halo seem to garner more attention than any other 1st person shooter? I can't attribute *all* its success to Microsoft's / Bungie's marketing machine.

I'm in total agreement. Its all just hype that builds up around it and half the people just buy it because everyone else is buying it. I remember seeing videoclips when Halo 2 came out and all of these bloated moms and old blubbering witherbys standing in line buying it away as if it was the last great hope on earth. I've played through both 1 and 2 and IMO, they are slow moving, more watching than playing, snorefests. I forced myself to complete Halo 2 even though it was painful because I kept waiting for the catch that never came. Its a kin to a sheepskin's anus inside of a felched gizzard, or something like that. :gsmile: Maybe 3 will be different. I'm always open to give it another shot...

There is no post in history that I could agree with more.
I have never understood the hype over Halo - "average" is too nice a word to use to describe, I think "mediocre" better captures my utter disappointment in the gaming communities support of such unimaginative drivel.
Halo, quite simply, is the "Wal-Mart" of FPS. Soulless and they'll let anyone into it.

there aren't that many RTS's on the colsoles, maybe that's one of the reasons. I for one, liked both games so far (especially cooperative)

Whatever though you guys are s Halo is a good game period. People on TA try to be so "old school" and talk about how there are better FPSs out there blah! blah! blah! lol seroiusly anything considered "mainstream" here is inferior, haters.

True, and the fact they piss over it again and again and again and again and...... its really sad...
Millions of people like to bone a horse or a sheep, no1 can explain why but they love it. So live with the fact that people have other interests then u do.
