What 'we' did.

cor version:
at my fairly new job (hollywood video), all the employees quit (including me). Why? The managment sucked. We all got hired at a new theater. After that happened, that hollywood video store got closed down.
details:
Some time ago I created a thread with a dilemma I had concerning my job at a gas station.
Long story short (if you remember), I 'did' quit for my own personal reasons as stated in that particular thread.
Anywho, I was now working at Hollywood Video. When I arrived, the whole crew (about eight of us, minus the STORE DIRECTOR; his name was Corey) was basically badass. The guys were good workers, the asst. managers we badass, the girls were those type of girls a guy could talk to freely (I'm guessing some one like jennypie and/or Slyee). You know, the type of people who make the job fun.
So, I get the job, learn it in about a few days (it was quite simple, really), and a month later I was promoted to Shift Leader (yay!). Right, so, the next couple of weeks are badass and all, and then, our Store Director, COREY, decides to become Hitler of the store.
Keep in mind that our crew was basically the type that talked alot, goofed off every minute we possibly could, and just the fun type of people; all of this while we do our job to the fullest. I can't explain how we actually managed to keep the store in tip-top shape with all the stupid things we did. And, we KNEW we were doing fine cause the District Manager never complained.
Moving on, Corey becomes strict on us because some snobbish customers began to complain. He does all this bull for about the next two weeks, which also included cutting our hours drastically. That, however, didn't affect the store, really. Becuase we just needed two people to operate efficiently. It just became boring and, for some reason, the regular customers started to become pricks. Whatever... it just wasn't the same anymore.
So, we all, then, plan to send the store to hell... One of my co-workers somehow got us all a job at the new movie theater at the mall (he was good friends with the top manager there). A few days later, we all quit. ALL of us.
A week later, after trying to gather a new crew, Corey 'resigns'. The new store manager they placed there wasn't 'reliable'. A few days ago, the store closed permanently. :D
What good came out of it? I get paid more, and I was hired as a manager over at the theater.. :toothless |

Ok.
Did you just post a whiny thread about harsh office politics, while working at a video store?
:wtf:
I mean fair enough, your boss was called Corey, which sucks (if you're him), but damn man.
How old are you? :wtf: |

yeah the rough thing about being proud of screwing over a business is the fact that at this new job he will likely be fired within the month, or it will go under within six months, and where can you be possibly proud of your work ethic with such goals.
jobs may be annoying, but screwing off all day isnt work. Comments like:
| quote: | | Keep in mind that our crew was basically the type that talked alot, goofed off every minute we possibly could, and just the fun type of people; all of this while we do our job to the fullest. |
actually say:
| quote: | | We all couldnt give a about actual work, as long as we got a paycheck and got to screw off as much as possible while doing so. And the store didnt look like total while we werent working, so what?! |
My current job isnt rocket science, but people just there to 'have fun' should ship off. Work can be fun, but it isnt all the time. And if you cant deal with that, beg your parents for more money, or get bent because nobody who actually tries hard likes you. And they will be the ones making more money while they fire you|
c0r version: 'we' didnt do , 'we' couldnt keep our jobs at a ing video rental store. |

Oh, come on. That's a bit harsh, don't you think? I mean, consider all those office politics. That could drive anyone mad, especially in a video store :stongue: |

oh believe me, there are more issues within any workplace beyond just individual effort.
i do alright at my work, but i am in no way part of the bureaucracy.
when it comes to video stores, especially commercial chain video stores in the US employing high school aged kids, i can imagine there was a whole lotta work not going on. most have video cameras, most have repeat, older adult customers, and its usually very obvious who or whom isnt pulling their weight.
in many circumstances, working for a chain makes it easier to keep your job.
it may be harsh, but in the city and environment i work in i see too many spoiled, privileged kids. they are what they are, but into their twenties they still fail to realize that everything will not be handed to them and be 'fun'| |

Not to jump on the bandwagon, but I don't get exactly what it is you're proud of. You screwed over the workplace that hired you because they actually wanted you to do your job properly? What exactly was it they where doing to oppress you oh so much and make it worth bearing a grudge against them?
Grats I guess? I dunno. |

Come on its a ty video rental store any manager that thinks his employees are looking for a career and not a job has their head shoved too far up their own ass.
Any manager in this level of business should bet thankful that they showed up and got their job duties done
(assuming that the OP was telling the truth when he stated this). Do you not wonder why he couldn't hire any new personnel after this group left? Or why he was terminated by the district manager? Maybe because he is a micro managing caveman who let his little bit of power go to his head. He figures that people should sacrifice everything for 6 bucks an hour.
Also anyone who is complaining about clerks in a rental store are talking to each other needs to reevaluate their own life. Getting worked up because you had to wait to rent The Master of Disguise is lame. |

good job dude. retail sucks and it seems that all the worst power hungry nazi managers are in retail. this is one of the reasons that retail sucks so much.
biz: i can off and get my work done just as good as the next guy is that is stressing hard over a deadline that is 3 weeks away. the more you make a job personal, the more it stressful it becomes, and the longer it takes to do that same job. having fun at your job is KEY to getting work done quickly and efficiently. if your not having fun your spending time dreading work and doing other things and procrastinating. |
