excuse ny ignorance, ive tried using the 'search' function to no avail, so ive always wondered how pay structures work for top teir Dj's?? what do some of the big guns (Armin,Tiesto,Van Dyke) command these days for a performance?? what cut or % does his/her manager get?? is the club responsible for for flight, accomidations, food, etc. on top of a specified set price??
sorry for all the questions...ive just always wondered...it seems like the big guns pretty much BANK all there earnings since, clubs/promoters, take care of the rest.....anyone with some insight feel free to chime in!!!
Cheers >>>> |

Big acts have talent management companies that take a chunk of what they charge to perform (agents, managers, labels, etc).
The other details are dependent on the event, DJ, club, promoter, etc. |

event type (fundraiser or typical party), number of guests, length of performance, established promoter or not, which day of the week, etc.
Also, there's demand and supply, if a dj is requested at the same date at two or more places, you can be sure he'll ask for more. |

not the most useful thread. But that is a good question and hopefully someone can provide even more insight.
That dj fee is pretty important to a lot of people, least of which the ticket buyer (us, the ones who are primarily responsible for the paying out of that fee).
If a dj fails to bring in projected sales for subj club, his/her's negotiating fee for a returning gig can take a hit (that's obvious). |

I can't tell if you're being serious or not - regardless, the fee depends on a number of things such as the length of set, the size of the event, etc. I recall tiesto's fee being about 35K quite awhile ago.
Promoters are required to pay flight and hotel. Flight depends on where the DJ is coming from, which is why promoters often do a flight share where a DJ comes over for a bunch of bookings in a row (ie Toronto, Montreal, Chicago, NYC in the same 1-2 weeks) - promoters can share the flight costs and the DJ gets several guaranteed bookings instead of coming over for just one gig.
(which was the issue with Dave Clarke in 2004...several of the gigs fell through and he decided 2 gigs wasn't worth coming over for) |

| Thought I'd post this here - when Katie and I were down at the hotel for FREEDOM, one of the DJs we saw in the lobby were Manzone & Strong. I understand Guv buying a hotel room for the DJs that are coming from out of town, but M&S are local DJs, so it seemed kinda weird. |

| Maybe they were visiting or partying with an out of town DJ that was staying there. |

As mentioned by others already, there are a lot of factors that determine the total fee, it's not a set rate for every night... but it is true that Tiesto has been getting paid more than 100k for some gigs in recent memory... and not just a huge party on NYE or whatever, last one I knew about was a party in Colombia last year.
He is by far the exception though, most DJs don't even make a fraction of that. |
