| If you're living in LA then you should have gotten LA plates. Just because you have military lic. doesn't mean you don't need to keep your vehicle properly up to date. |

if you moved to a different state, and you were notified that you did not have to change anything about your vehicle, would you not do it?
i'm not pissed about "not getting military special treatment" i'm pissed that officals in one state said i would not have to take any action [which is techincally true, because i can drive around LA and be fine], but the fact that my own base is screwing me. for 6 months. |

You don't live in IOWA any more what right do you have to renew your car's registration there? Its illegal to do so. You need to register your car in the state that your living in. No one should have to tell you this. |

so the other thousands of military members here that have out of state plates, are breaking the law too? i've already explained this. |

If they lied about their address when renewing the registration on their car. Yes. Why are you trying to avoid getting the proper plates and registration for your car. You're going to have to get them why not sooner than later? |

being active duty, however, i am not required to get plates at every single base/post i'm assigned too. likewise with driver's license. this is why states allow people to keep their original plates/license as long as they can show a mil ID. after becoming non-active (depending on the state) you have 60 days to get new stuff.
so, say for example, i was to stay here in louisiana after my four years are up and become a permenant resident - then, i'd get new plates/license. |

I just figured if you bought a home, your going to be there for a while. Anyways good luck with getting them renewed. |

i'll only be here 2-3 years, hardly what i would consider a homestead. i mean, i was at school in iowa longer than that.
as long as the registration w/ the sticker on it says today's date (may 25th), i should be all right. |

I ran in to this issue a few times but always got around it because I was always on TDY orders to different states. Its not that anyone is trying to get special treatment, its that we normally don't live in any one particular state long enough to change over. If we're exempted from having to change them due to our status then whats the issue? Some bases/states have different laws and I always try to be in accordance with them, but I'm not going out of my way to change my plates/tags for a 6mth/1yr stay. Thats expensive and ridiculous.
