can't drive for 6 months :(

So today, I was driving on base, like I normally do, and they checked my license plates (which happens randomly), and noticed that they were expired (which they have been since October).

because of this, I have lost my driving priveleges on base for 6 months. That means, I cannot drive any vehicle at all on base.

This is all because the state of Iowa (where my license plates were registered) told me that as long as I have a valid military ID, I can drive w/ the expired license plates. While this is true everywhere else, it does not hold the same on a military installation, apparently. Here, they require you to have valid plates (regardless of state) and not having it will involve your priveleges being revoked....for a minimum of 6 months.

I have 7 days to prove I have valid plates. This is my only tiny shread of hope - as I called up Iowa today and renewed them [with a friend's discover card, because I only have Visa]. They were able to renew the plates, and send out the new stickers today. Which means I'll get them probably on wednesday (due to the holiday). Assuming I get them, I can go to the security forces people and say, "hey, i'm legal now".

In the mean time, I have to work Sunday-Wednesday of next week (plus PT before work on Mon/Wed). I have to get some other things scheduled for next friday, and on Tuesday, I have to report to my commander and show him the memo/ticket I received (no montary value, except it was $135 to renew my plates, because they're so old).

So yeah, for the next six months, I have to walk to work and basically anything I have to do on base. Even for a first time offense. and this was the first time anyone told me about anything close to this either.

Ironically enough, they didn't mention anything about the empty beer bottle that was in the bed of my truck. I didn't notice it was there until I got home - ing high schoolers across the street must have thrown it in there while I was asleep.

.

[c0r verison - get your plates renewed, regardless of what the state tells you].

i wasn't trying to "beat the system" (mainly, because i AM part of the system). i was simply doing what the state told me was OK.

ppl who work for DMV don't work there because they're smart.

it wasn't the DMV that told me this - it was the County's Office who issues license plates. the DMV only deals w/ your drivers' license.
