That comment makes no sense.
It has nothing to do with anyone wanting to be black... Thats like saying "oh trance fans like trance because of the cool "glowsticks" and the "rave" or even "XTC" scene"... would u want non-trance fans saying that about us?
Alot of people like hiphop because of a very dancable beat, at clubz if you are going to clubs to meet girls, its a very dancable beat, and alot of people are more into lyrics and rhymes. It's poetry in its own way for younger kids. But there's so much success in hiphop and younger kids because hiphop is targeted towards them. Hiphop is the most universal type of music in this world. |

That's OK,but then people shouldn't go around slamming the whole genre,when they don't know the whole genre!!

You're right on that one.Too bad that people have to slam a whole genre,simply because they've heard some of it that's bad. |

| my comment stands, why do most kids choose hip hop, because its "cool" and at that age they want to climb the social ladder and get under the impression (and most often do) achieve this by doing it. i mean, to use a bad phrase, but what losers listen to trance at school?! most kids are black wannabes these days btw, maybe it different for you over there. but here people change the way they are to act like a thug or similar type character, use the ebonic slang etc. ever heard a Geordie say "what up?". maybe over there its different because youve grown up with it, but over here its a black persons image being oponed after by a white culture, (similar to the grunge image of nu metal that had already gripped this country) and maybe you understand what i mean that way? even over here trance is jack compared to the teenager acceptable genre's of hip hop and nu metal. theyre commercial money spinning monsters and every little bit of it is imported and not within the lifestyle or character of 99.9% of its listeners... |

i never hated neither hip hop or nu metal until they became hyper popular among kids, and the music is thrown in my face every day... :( |

Ok, Yea, there are kids who take act in trying to be "thuggish" i wouldn't say "black" because in america we've broken the barrier long time ago... for instance back in da day if a white kid were to be act'n "black" they would be called "wiggers" , well that is no more. So here where i am, we've broken that barrier far long ago. And i personally used to be a hiphop fan when i was younger and alot of my friends did too, and we did not act "thuggish" in anyway. Yea, the slang was tehre, but you telling me only hiphop listeners use that type of ebonics??? hell no, almost everyone in the U.S uses it to a certain point, and if you say "what up dawg" , that is not considered "being black" here. And like i said most majority of people who like hiphop that i know ilke the music for teh music and its certain qualities. Most people like hiphop because of taht reason, believe me, not because of just teh "cool" thing that you are talking about. The reason most anti-hiphop ppl see it taht way is because thats(thuggish) what sticks out the most. Do you really think a normal average dressing kid who listens to hiphop will stand out and be a social matter of discussion??? NO WAY, only the ones who look "thuggish" will be talked about. That is why most people who are anti-hiphop think that way.
I gaurantee you there are thousands of ppl that listen to trance juss because its the best to listen to when you are on a mind altering drug... and thousands of kids that like trance cuz of the "rave" scene or what ever you wanna call it.
And i will bet you that most anti-trance fans, have the same mentality as you did to think of trance fans the same way, by taking the most negative which is the most noticable aspect of trance to judge us... Which is just 'n gay, so all im saying is... maybe like the other guy said, try to understand other music lil more b4 u judge not only hte music but teh fans of the music especially....

i grew out of the "i only like this genre, it is so much better than all the others" phase of my life. music is music. i'll listen to whatever's music to MY ears.
As for the culture, I've seen many wannabe ravers around here too. wearing their bright coloured oversized pants, and waving their glowsticks around to sandstorm. is that trance culture? no...

Why hip hop? Here's why. I have listened to rap since all the b-boys left the breakdancing scene around 1985 and have written, mixed, and recorded hip hop long before I found trance. I liken rap to trance in: 1. rap was, at one time, not mainstream and therefore not trendy. Until about the early 90s, rap was still placed with either rock, R&B, or soul in record stores; up till now all I see is trance in the "dance" section with house- 2. I can't think of another genre that can beatmatch like trance & rap can. I used to mix about 7 or 8 rap tracks together easily since 1990. If you told me there would be another kind of music that you can match beats as easily, I would have really thought you were on some type of club drug. :p I thought vinyl was completely worthless except for rap till trance came around. 3. the collaberation (sp?)of artists on on track or song. You have remixes and VS and guest stars and whatnot on both rap & trance. Ferry Corsten's mix of Push, Redman feat Method Man, etc etc.
I don't listen to hip hop like I used to but I will still bust out old favorites like BDP/KRS-One, Rakim, and Public Enemy. Throw them on the turntable and scratch, what have you. You can say rap sounds the same, but where would rock be without a guitar, or jazz without the horns, you get the idea. Like goa and progressive, there are different types of rap. Good east coast rap, and ty rap from the south (bling bling) that has polluted the industry. Even rap from the east coast pretty much sucks ass and I refuse to listen to it. I hope trance does not become commercialized like the hip hop genre has in the US. |

I'll agree that it is pretty pathetic to act "thuggish" when you've obviously got no reason what so ever to do it.That is something that belongs to the black culture IMHO.BUT:The fact that some white people try to imitate that culture,doens't automatically mean that the whole spectrum of hiphop sucks!!I think you'd better clarify here.Is it the music or the way white people try to adapt to the culture you don't like?That's two different issues!I think we need to set the record straight on what we're debating here! |

This may go off wrong, but arent most of the people posting on this topic not american? I can understand why you dont like rap, u dont listen to lyrics and understand them like others. Maybe you cant relate to watching your back while u check the mail, or hearing of friends shot dead. Or maybe u dont smoke weed all day and chill out like we do in the dirty south. Its a different kind of music where the artist is usually trying to get a message across. Listen to songs by outkast, dmx, lyrical geniouses like mos def and nas and jayz. Some songs, like most P-diddy songs are trash and are "commercial" most rappers like JayD and puff are businessman first rappers 2nd.
I invite anyone on this board to come to jville and attend a Trick daddy concert with me and see what its all about. U wont feel out of place at all... ahah yea right
i've been listening to rap since Bobby Brown's first album, so i know my . But i've been listenin to electronic music for a good 6 years now.

About that repetive thing, trance wouldn't be called trance if the drums and the bass weren't repetive, like the indians danced to monotone drums all night long to get their minds into trance :) that's a fact!
