thanks to all who replied with some thought. I think wether religious or not we should not use God's name in vein. If you are religious then Im sure that you would agree with me. And if you are not then why would you say something that has no meaning to you in the first place because you don't believe in it??
If you are going to show emotion and use God's name but at the same time you are not religious......well that in itself does not make sense.
I just think that being a part of this great website, we can show others that we are mature individuals who think before we speak out at something that may or may not have meaning to others. Why chose to say things that may harm others if we can chose another ways of saying it? I respect everyone and all opinions and if you have a good enough reason to say someting offensive then fine.....I just think that most people who say things like OMFG don't even realize what they are saying. Again thanks to all who replied |

well although i didnt totally agree with you before...
people that have lived a significant part of their lives with religion possibly lose faith or question it, may then use it to break free of that oppression (if you pardon the word). MAINLY people say it not to piss those religious people off, but because it doesnt really mean anything to them. its just a more powerful swear word than saying 'Gosh' or 'Darn!' and because much of the Western world has considered it taboo, the mention of a lord adds that extra punch.
i have to say i use 'jesus' quite i bit when i speak. your average God fearing(Christian) individual wouldnt like it, but then again im not religious, so it means nothing to me. its just fun to say cause, like i said bad words have that punch you cant get with darn! geewillikers/ |

| Its not the phrase OMFG!!!!! that bothers me, its the fact that almost every thread I have ever read that started with OMFG!!!!! is/was created by an over-exaggerating hyper active person.... who explodes simply because they heard a track they like.......then you download it, and usually the track isn't .1 % as good as the thread starter acted like it was....... |

"OH MY FLIPPING GOSH"
and when I say "LMFAO", what I am actually saying, is:
"LAUGHING MY FLIPPING ANKLES OFF"

i am an athiest, and do I take offense when other people say "I'm going to hell", or "I'm going to live a better life than you?"
No, this is their belief.
If I say, "God sucks balls," my belief is that it's just words, it doesn't mean anything. You are extremely offended.

I don't think there is anything wrong with saying such swear words, they are just that, words.
I mean in real life I always watch what I say, I hate to use profanity because my parents tought me that excessive swearing made you sound like a dumb person..
But I do enjoy a good swear when I am mad or excited... Here's some religious fav's that may offend...

Sorry if it offends you, I don't mean to intentionally sound like an ass, but I feel that people need to realize many words mean different things. We all grow up with different attitudes, etc... We can't expect everyone to be like you, so I think its silly to ask people to behave a certain way.
Just ignore it, you make it an issue for yourself, you can just as easily not get upset over it if you choose to. You don't swear like that, so why worry about what other people do online. |
