Who's gettin whacked tonight! (Sopranos) (pg. 6)

i havent watched it yet but from what i read on this thread, it does seem they went about the ending in a very calculated/planned way, tying up all loose ends and being consistent. also this show had had many metaphors (like the geese/ducks in season 1 or the talking fish(es) so i could imagine the Sopranos ending like this). This was not ur typical mobster story, and HBO made sure to promote it as such. Sounds like it followed true to the end.

also i think in some interview James Gandofini already revealed Tony was gonna get whacked (dont quote me on this, i just remember hearing it somewhere.)

it DID confuse me initally when everyone was describing the 'fade to black' ending.

then again, this DOES leave it open...but then again, if they WERE to make a movie, what storyline could they have? They already did that storyline, that he was in the hospital, clinging to life. i doubt they would revisit that again.

man either way i am really sad that such an epic is over...i used to have Seasons 1 and 2 on dvd but had to sell it cuz i was broke. I would soo buy the entire series...and rewatch everything...

The more I think about the ending, the more brilliant I see it. Theres no way to please everyone, theres so many different endings that were thought up in spoiler sites, this was the only way for it to end this way everyone got hit.

If you look at it, the show has come full circle. Tony's still doing stuff and looking over his shoulder, Paulie still supersticious, AJ spoiled, Meadow still confused about her future, but the family is still together no matter what.

The end... where the screen goes black... refer to the episode where Bobby and Tony are in the boat and Bobby says "You don't see it when it comes...it just goes black". Well no one saw it coming, and it went black. Basically, WE - the audience - got whacked. This was the end of the road for us and the Sopranos. Usually the show ends with a great song running through the credits which has some meaning. Well, 'dont stop believing' has some very significant lyrics to the show. And on the jukebox, the very next song is "anyway you want it", which is signifying that when the screen goes black, we can end the show however we want it - its open to our imagination, this way we can come up with an ending that everyone as an audience will be happy about.

Thoughts taken from the c0r Sopranos Explained thread.

"from a guy in my office...

He was killed....

in fact, the ending was genius if you've paid attention to the show or are just a fan of well developed well thought out plots that all tie together and have the memory of a champ to remember it all

the ending was simple, he got killed, but let me tell yall why and explain in detail... There was 3 people in the room total who had a reason to kill tony.....

the two black guys, they were paid before to kill tony but he was only shot in the ear, this was in one of the earlier seasons,

also in the earlier seasons, the trucker who was sitting at the bar stool, who the camera kept focusing in on, is Nikki leotardo, Phil Leotardos nephew, he was in one of the early season episodes where Phil and Tony have a sit down....

heres where the genius comes in....

When tonys walking in the diner, you see the camera focus on him, then it switches to his perspective, and you see him looking @ the booth hes gonna sit at...

then the camera switches back to tonys face, then it once again switches to his perspective, and it shows him looking @ the door and looking @ the people come in..... Everytime the door opens the Chimes sound....... Carmela walks in, Chimes, AJ walks in Chimes, this when Meadows parallel parking, still trying to get inside the restaurant....

at this point the camera switches back to the trucker who goes in the bathroom......

Then it goes to a scene where meadow finally parks and starts running in the diner....

the doors about to open, Tony looks up....

and No Chimes......................

No Music............

Everything just goes black...............

In one of the early episodes of the sopranos, tonys talking with bobby about what it must feel like to die..

Bobby says "at the end, you probably dont hear anything, everything just goes black"

part of that was revisited in the second to last episode during the last seconds of it, when tonys about to go to sleep and he flashes back to the memory of him and bobby on the boat... "You probably dont hear anything everything just goes black"

so in the end, the Journey song was playing, the chimes on the door sounded but when meadow came in, the guy in the trucker hat came out and killed tony...

its the reason you aint hear, or see e when he died.... it was from his perspective.... and everything went black, then the credits rolled."

that theory was debunked - just search. The 2 black guys who tried to attack tony were killed, the dude at the bar was not phil's cousin. as a matter of fact it was his first appearance on the show. nice try though. the prevailing theory is that tony gets cliped but everyone has their own theory.

Nice....i didn't even pick up on the songs. everything going black, the family staying together, and tony looking over his back were all easy, but the song was too subtle for me to pick up on.
