if you were referring to me when did i ever say france was technologically superior? i don't deny the fact that the US is far ahead but what i was trying to say was that Europe is more advanced and modern in terms of way of life.... not in the advancements of satelites or military technology. If you ask any tourists what their first impression when coming to the US to visit is how primitive the way of life is here, the whole idea of "freedom" in this country is very shocking to people, and the harsh differences between the rich and the ghetto areas. |
This quote is where you said france is more technologically advanced (page 3):

............I dunno about the rest of the places in europe but from what i know their way up there as well, more advanced in technology and modern. |
It's nice that a french person admitted that americans are better at something, because in this case we clearly are. And what does primitive way of life mean?? If you are referring to the fact that there is a disparity between rich and poor, well that's the incentive system we have. This system is the reason this country has been the most innovative over the last 100 years. This is also the reason you are in this country. If you want to live off of government handouts that's fine. But for the most part people in this country don't. And those that do are the ones who deserve it the least. Maybe they need it the most, but our system is based on merit. |

i wasn't being nice i was just pointing out what i know, and yes the reason i'm in this country is to benefit from this system but that doesnt mean i like it, clearly i want there to be changes. This system is good if you are rich since many of them benefit from it or a hardworking person, the reason many americans work so many long hours is that working is just a way of being kept busy so that you don't have to think about the problems in the real world... |

i could careless if you were being nice or not, i said it is nice, not you are nice. no offense intended.
But back to the point, you aren't making any sense. You are in this country to benefit from the system that rewards people for hardwork, but yet you want to change that to give benefits to those who need it, and don't necessarily deserve it. i hope you can see the problem with that logic.
you can have your opinions about why americans work long hours, but i simply don't agree. I know i work long hours because i have to pay off massive graduate student loans. |

dude, what the hell are you talking about?? Are you an illegal immigrant or something? You have representation, unless you live in DC. You may not like it, but you do. Furthermore, you can't complain if you don't vote. |

I'm here because my father is doin a job that requires him to be here, as much as i love NYC i dont see why i should go back yet even though i will, when i can try and make a difference in this system... |

come on man, that was a pretty ridiculous comment. i was entertaining it just to be insightful. And i'd love to hear how you know what the rest of the world thinks. What are you 21? And i'm sure you've been to Argentina, Cuba, Australia, Russia, China, Japan, Thailand, Nigeria, South Africa, Norway, North Korea, Iran, and India, right???? So you probably had the chance to ask all of them why americans work long hours. |

Man, that's not what you were saying. You said americans work long to forget about real world problems. That's not the case. I am working to pay off loans. Of course i don't like it, but its a fact of life, and has nothing to do with what you said. Soon enough the loans will be gone.
Plus a citizen paying for something him/herself isn't a bad thing. We are just substituting our choice for a government mandated choice. That's why taxes are a bit lower in the US, to allow for americans to chose how they want to spend money. Alot of european countries have their highest personal income taxes rates as high as 40 - 50%, with VATs around 20%. In contrast, the highest US personal income tax rate is 35%, with states electing to charge sales taxes. THe higher european taxes are basically the governments making expenditures that in the US you have to make yourself. In the US, the government gives people the chance to spend as they see fit.
Good luck trying to change a system that has worked since 1787. What's that saying, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." |
