i have several past shows i could listen to the intro's and see.

audibly, how do you tell if ableton is behind it ??
im clear on the fact the a quick/rough transition could mean mixing by hand.
while a smoother, seemless transition could mean ableton, but it can be dont by hand obviosly.
any tale-tale signs, or just read up on ?? |

markus does some excellent smooth blending using CD units so just because its a super long blend doesnt mean software did it. And likewise, just because a mix is done quickly doesn't mean the DJ is poor at beatmatching, it may just be a stylistic choice. I think you just gotta know the DJ's style/methology.
If you do hear any flanging or phase shifting, then its obviously done by hand because software would never allow that to happen. |

i understand how a long and smooth transition could be a reflection of a skilled dj.
at the same time i understand a short and rough transition could be a dj's style, or purposful.
i dont know enough to know what flanging or phase shifting is.
i'd just assume if you hear ups its human error. |

Use some logic.
I know for a fact that Markus Schulz is away from home a lot. I also know he has to do his show when hes away sometimes. So, unless he carries decks with him whereever he goes then I would be almost certain he uses ableton (or some other mixing software which would be unlikely) to do his GDJB.
I could be wrong though.
Anyways, i dont see the fuss, its not like these big DJs cant beatmatch. Using Ableton for radio sets just makes more sense. We shouldn't be moaning if THEY use ableton, we should be moaning if people who cant beatmatch or mix use ableton and call themselves DJs. |

You can cleary hear the difference in asot if you would listen to roughly episode 155 and under (cd/ vinyl mixed) and then listen to some of the latest asots (ableton mix) So much smoother.
Your mixing on the decks will never compare to be as good as something mixed by ableton. Once or twice a year armin takes one of hes live recordings and playes it in one of hes asot episodes, he played hes set from amnesia at episode 275ish. |
