So Oakenfold was good huh? Sorry I missed it, I would have stayed for John Beaver. I was at the Markus show,
Missed you all, the 1015 goers and djs! Not sure if I'm going anywhere this weekend, guestlist providing. ;] |

| got there just before 10:30 and line was around the corner. made several rounds to all the rooms, fun crowd all around... felt exactly what a multi-room club is meant for. oakey played a nice set that pleased both regulars and non-regulars. i just regret overdoing the drinking with the friends i brought along. started to sober up and have a more genuinely fun time as taj came up. and credit to my friends for sticking it out long after oakey, enjoying taj's set. good times! great night! |

It's nice to see both major parties last night had great crowds. Of course Oakey would draw a much bigger one...because it's Oakey. He'll have a draw for a long time.
But holy crap, look at the crowd in the main room. So many white people! I would feel weird and out of place lol.
But again, nice to see both parties a big success. It's a real good sign of how the scene here is continuing to make its comeback.
It's scary to thing if Markus and Oakey both ended up playing at Ruby like originally planned. Crowd would have felt like a bunch of sardines! |

definitely! the scene handled two big acts across town, with great turnouts, bringing people out of the woodwork, all on a tuesday mid-week holiday! hope this gets noticed and results in some nice shows that would not have happened otherwise.. |

Man what a long couple of days... Heres a little bit from what I remember last night..
Yesterday, Around 8 o'clock I started getting ready to get to the club to help out with the door. Expected was a large crowd, and in total we had about 5-6 lines outside from different variables from people who bought tickets from all over..
I spent most of my day yesterday finalizing some last minute promotions for this, and also updated a bunch of posts all over on the net.
Around 9:00 when I arrived to the club, there was already a line forming. I was pretty shocked to see this, but then realized this was probably what it looked like before when Paul came to Ten15...The last time he came, a long time ago. I remember back then, when I arrived at the club around 11, and didnt get in until 2.
The line started forming pretty quickly, and the first thing I noticed was a bunch of people who dont usually frequent the club, tons of pretty women all around and of course, ReleaseSF's Nabiel who I havent seen in so long. There were people who said they havent been to 1015 in years, some people who approached me about me being on their myspace, others who recognized me from past shows, and old friends.
Sometime around 10:00, Maddness started happening. A slew of people were on both sides of the building, and all lines were long. Thats when they started moving... Both me and Koroma were working the VIP/Guestlist line to the left, and EVERYONE was anxious to get into the club. Security did an excellent job last night at keeping everyone in order, and moving the line as best they could.. man,.. freakin busy as .
Helping out I sure have to hand it to whoever is taking care of this on big nights. This was my first time to help out at the door, and I got to feel what its like. I would say probably 3 people out of everyone I met at the door were unhappy about standing there for so long. We finished up the line arund 2:15 I believe, and there were still people coming in waves, and trickles.
All in all, everyone who came to the club I greeted with a smile, and helped out what I could scanning tickets and putting bracelets on the women, and guys too.. There was one chick who had a party of 30 people, all VIP ticket holders. Holy crap, she basically took my roll of drink tickets. VIP ticket holders got 4 free drinks per VIP ticket. Man was everyone happy and drunk. I got tipped a $20, and a $40. Many thanks to whoever that pretty lady was..
Around 2:10 I took a break and went inside to check things out. I wanted to snap a few photos, but realized I didnt bring the camera and Lynn had it. So I went into the mainroom to see how things were doin.
I did not expect to see the mass of people I saw. I thought it was busy but not packed. Holy was I wrong. I stood up to the left in the lighting booth and took a peek at Paul doing his thing. Suprisingly, he looked up at me and pointed, smiled at me, quickly said hello and shook my hand. I've met Paul years ago at 1015, and chilled with him for a bit at Love Fest 2006. someone asked me. "How cool is it being recoginzed by Paul Oakenfold???" I replied "ing Awsome."
I stood there for a while listening to what he was playing, and sure enough it was Trance. Everyone was into Paul, and ya he had his moments, but the man still can rock it. He did play alot of classics. I seriously was hoping to hear baguio, or flesh, but I dont know if he played it.
I also noticed I belive Taj brought some extra posters of Paul into the lighting booth, so I quickly took 4 of them for myself and some friends for him to sign.
At the end of Paul's set, he took the time out for Rizo to take some photos of me and him, and with Rizo. I dont know if hes gonna post him though.. Paul did get a wee bit cranky, later on during the night.
I had a chance to talk to Martel and Nabiel last night, and with Paul. I do hope to see him out again soon, if not this year, speaking with him he says next year again.
I'm also sure this will not be the last time we will see Release back again. Its great to see them back at 1015, and I so was happy to see every room packed again like the old days... Old and new friends all over the club.
BTW, the front room was shut down again to play Paul throughout the rooms. I didnt get a chance to go upstairs, but that was cool too, seriously felt like the old days for me. I remember back then when Paul was playing, I was freakin raved out Norditracking with my friends to Flesh in that front room many years ago,.. Brought back good memories for me...
Ya, I missed Marcus. But wanted to stay behind to see how my helping out with Promotions did. How does it feel to know that I helped build that crowd? Pretty ing awsome. Hope everyone had a great 4th, I know I did.
Ya, this being a Tuesday, Martel says the same thing I did, yesterday felt like a Friday. Is this going to help the weekends at 1015? People who saw me all over the club last night says they definitely will be returning seeing all the renovations and changes the club has been through. They love the new look of the club and the views from above. ya, Taj killed it last night, not to mention the other 1015 Residents who when I went to the rooms were rockin the crap outta em. O and Dude the women last night.. Freakin..:eek::eek:
In agreement with you Dave on both venues having a great turnout. Just goes to show you how big SF EDM fanbase really is.
2Tall, was that you that said hello to me last night in the yello shirt??? |

You were right Blurr.. I felt like a " DE-- JA --VU"...felt exactly the years of 1999 and 2000..the line was formed all the way near the 76 gas station..
Tommy: You're welcome..thanks for the great support again and again..:) |

paul got the jist of it now - finally. He learned people disliked his recent change in music so he is playing what made him a god back in the day - and its working. If he gets back to working the djing skills and not just song selection - we should all give the guy the respect he deserves now and forget the big error he made in the past 6 or so years.
i missed this gig and edc but when i saw oakie in miami - he was nothing but pure trance! |

ya, Tommy was the only TA i think along side 2tall I could spot. Im sure there were more...
After all, new TA's I'm glad you got to experience Oakenfold and a Release night at 1015, for those of you who are kind new to the club. When combined with Spundae before, we didnt just go to 1015 on Saturday's.. it was often both days Friday and Saturday.
But ya, other TA's showed up later durning the night so it made it even more awsome.
Ya, seein Joe on the decks upstairs was cool. I remember you working that mixer downstairs if im correct.. I kinda agree with that element-y, but every Dj has his days. |

Well I think he should play whatever makes him happy. I mean, I don't think he's hurting for money, popularity maybe. No sense in being an unhappy dj just because you are giving the crowd what they want. I mean its good to do that up to a point, but IMO a lot of popularity goes to the djs who are really passionate about what they play. I don't care much for Paul, but if he does go back to pure trance, I think I will have to see a show.
Play what you love to play! |

You simply can't do that everywhere.
You have to feed off the crowd. Let them take lead the direction of your music. If the crowd wants you to go one way and you go another, you are not going to have fun either way. It's a lose lose situation. What fun is it to play what you like if the crowd is sitting there not enjoying it? But as a professional he should be going off the crowd.
Some DJs hate this and complain about it, but in the end they know it's their job and what they are paid to do!
Luckily for Paul most people don't have an idea of what he really plays so they just go nuts no matter what. Same with Tiesto, lol.
It's the people who know the scene that have issues. :)
Paul is known for being pretty on or pretty off over the last year....most of the time he's more off than on, still, but it's better than being off off off like he was for a couple years ago.
Believe the last time Paul played at Ten15 was in May 2004 (yes, I am lame and remember those things). After playing a pretty piss-poor set in January 2004 at Ruby Skye (see, that's how much I remember these things), everyone who went that May said he was really really good...so who knows, maybe he just knows what to play at Ten15, lol. |
