LA had it's scene way before SF and even before New York. After the Madchester era was over a lot of the English guys directly associated with The Hacienda headed over to Santa Monica. |
The gay community and San Fransico have always embraced house music and have been the cradle for the genre in California. While LA did get raves, the fags were doing things inteligently, and turning a profit.Talking 80's here homes...lookitup at www.fagdancetomrfingers.com/pwned

Don't mix up the early 80's Santa Monica with modern day Los Angeles. Two totally different times. The Santa Monica community is, even today, ridiculously bohemian. So many artists/musicians live and work out of Santa Monica. Nothing but smelly hippies. There was no profit involved :p Unless you count trading peace beads and as 'profit'. |

Maybe I should have said "with your perception of modern Los Angeles". Are there people that throw parties for profit? Of course, I'm sure they do it in MTL too. Just because the drinks are cheaper and you can go out looking like a slob (you can do that here btw, just ask Clovis :p) doesn't mean there's no profit involved. C'mon now guys, we're just arguing semantics here :p
edit // and for good measure... :p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p |

I'm not but as the self proclaimed TA house god you should be agreeing with me cause i'm right. I'm arguing the validity of the city being a mecca and quite possible the capital of edm in North America.I'm a cocky sonofabitch for sure but read up if you ever feel like it and you will see.San Francisco had a much bigger impact on the overall House scene in California and honestly LA reaped the benefits not set the trends. Its about history, the more history involved the quicker and more intelligent the progression. I haven't even touched our Electro/Miniaml scen..Mutek (Which has a week devoted to charts on beatport) and Piknik Electronik.(where children under 12 are inveted to free dj clinics...headliners for 7 $ (Van Stroke,Wighnomy Bros ,James Holden Nathan Fake, Desyn Massielo,Misstress Barbara,Josh Wink, ect ect...and this is marketted towards families, outdoors and during the day. People bring their kids even and its packed. What other cities educate the future clubber and cater to everyones needs like this.Smart business, leads to progression and keeping the music true and alive.
and jenny im not a fag but sometimes like 2 figers up my ass with the scissor motion.
Did i forget that traditionally New Years Eve Montreal has the best bookings in the North East and the most tourists besides new york even though its less than half the size. |

Self proclaimed? lol wut!
I'm not gonna agree with you because I think you're wrong, plain & simple :p I'm not gonna let you say that "LA reaped the benefits" when parties were being thrown here years before SF and a at least two years before New York. Montreal probably has some good parties, no one ever said they didn't. But it's not the end all be all of dance music and it certainly isn't the "North American capital" either. |
