I was at the game and definately saw some start to go down with 5 minutes left in the game. A group of chilean fans (these guys were 40+ years old!!!) were starting taunting/teasing even slapping an argentinian man (He was 40+ too!!!). It was about to explode as Argentinians fled to his aid. (I was thinking of the Socs and the Greasers showdown, don't know why).
Then a dozen officers appeared from no where and made a wall between the two groups.
I decided then to leave before they started tossing .
Why do sports fans feel the need to take out their frustrations on each other ???

Politics, these two countries have been at each others throats for centuries.

i was at the game too, the ref was a dumbass, ruined the game within the first 10min
Rodrico
Shame what went down, could of been a really good match otherwise, though Argentina had some really spectacular goals. Im shocked that ref got outta there alive.

it would be a good game but i'm pretty sure Argentina would still win, they definitely outplayed them and are better technically. Argentinian players are a bunch of pussies though, at some points i saw 4players laying on the ground crying with their faces covered...italians, portuguese and argentinian players are pro's in that

I agree almost entirely. I don't totally blame the ref on the red card. He got fooled, bottom line. We can call the players pussies all we want, but we have to call them winners too. They're exagerations are, and have ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS been part of soccer (at least the 2 decades I have watched).
SURE its a move, BUT it IS a part of the game. ALL the pros do it. ALL the european teams are MASTERS of the dive. You see everyone do it, at all levels of competition. I'll go so far as to say that you don't see all of it because some of the players are THAT good at it.
Just search 'soccer' 'diving' in you tube for HUNDREDS of more examples.
Again, yes, but I've excepted it as part of the game, and don't blame the refs all because they don't see it in slow motion from an aerial view.
EXAMPLE. Henri in the world cup against spain...at full speed you can't tell me the ref or ANYONE (including the announcer) else didn't think he got elbowed to the head...only in slow motion do you see what a SNEAKY Henri is (he is a jedi knight when it comes to diving), but you have to call him winner after the game.

There are sooooo many classics. I wasted 15 minutes watching em all on youtube. They are so frequent, and so blatent that I forget how many BAD ones there are.

LOL @ the 2nd pic in the series featuring the mascot being arrested by police ..
Final game of Argentina vs Czech Republic on CBC now.
Austria vs Chile 3rd place match was surprisingly good. Was a goalkeeper duel that saw something like 17 saves between both keepers. Highlight of the match was Chilean keeper off balance, jumping backwards to slap the ball right at the goal line. Chile won 1-0 from a goal that's up there with goals of the tourney.
Come to think of it, there's been a lot of classy goals in this tourney

^ TOTALLY AGREE...(its an exciting game when the ref doesn't cripple one of the teams)
So upset I'm not at both these games...was offered a ticket (includes both games) for $150 but my sorry ass is stuck at home crunching quarterly tax numbers (or procrastinating on TA)
