I know we have quite a number of NHL fans on this part of the board, so I decided to make a thread since today was a flurry of activity with the free agent signings today
Local:
Philadelphia Fleyrs sign Buffalo Sabres co-Captain Center Daniel Briere for 8 years $52 million
New York Rangers sign New Jersey Devils Center Scott Gomez for 7 years $51.5 million
New York Rangers sign Buffalo Sabres co-Captain Center Chris Drury for 5 years $35 million
New York Islanders sign Atlanta Thrashers forward Jon Sim for 3 years, terms not disclosed
Detroit Red Wings sign New Jersey Defenseman Brian Rafalski for 5 years $30 million
Toronto Maple Leafs sign New York Islanders forward Jason Blake for 5 years $20 million
Washington Capitals sign defenseman Tom Poti for 4 years $14 million
Washington Capitals sign New York Islanders forward Viktor Kozlov to a two-year deal worth $5 million. |

Exciting day for the New York Rangers...Glen Sather was the man today :D. I would have loved to see Colorado make a big move but oh well. Rangers definitely have a fighting chance next season if Gomez and Drury could come in produce as much as they are expected to.
*would have liked to see some added defensemen but oh well |

Ryan Smyth I didn't like him...he better stay healthy and play well if he's gonna be in Colorado though. |

| Oh wait Colorado got Scott Hannan from SJ, gritty player if I remember correctly not too bad of an addition...it'll never be like the good old days though when a Stanley Cup was legitimately within sight every year :( |

Gomez is one of the best players.
The way he breaks through the lines is amazing.

Could Lou have at least tried to get him sent to another division before today? To have one of your best players literally go across the river sucks. |

Gomez loved playing at MSG. It didn't surprise me that his heart was set there. |

thank god im not a huge hockey fan, i would be crushed today if i cared about hockey like i do about baseball. |
