Oh come on, you can ALWAYS formatt a harddrive.
After you do, pop in XP into the CDROM instead of Vista. Now XP will be installed as your operating system. |

for windows users, stick to XP. Its' going to be real hard for M$ to discontinue its support considering Vista's state regarding drivers and support.
for smart people, switch to linux :D |

Vista is a piece of garbage.. almost as bad as WindowsME.
To put it simply, I can't even run MSN Messenger on it! |

great! then you get error msg's such as:
"You cannot format this drive because it contains the copy of Windows you are currently using" and "Format cannot run because it is in use by another process. Cannot lock the drive. It is still in use" |

| You obviously can't format the drive while you're logged into Windows, lol. Format in DOS before the OS is loaded. Or use the XP installation CD to format. I don't have a Vista machine, so I can't really try it out, but there's no way I'm going to believe Vista is somehow able to prevent you from formatting a hard drive. |

just make sure your CD drive boots first, toss in the XP Pro CD and you're ready to go. It formats it for you before the install, in the meantime you can sit back, relax listening to great electro funk tunes...:D ... gotta reboot with the cd in for it to work...for all it's worth |

well this guy obviously couldn't:
"I've tried rebooting with the install disc in the drive but the computer just bypasses it without giving any options." Link |

| depends on the hardware of that machine, you can wipe off vista, sure, but you can't install XP. if the hardware isnt supported by XP and the proper drivers for xp dont exist for the hardware you have, well your out of luck. colleagues of mine have tried to uninstall vista from all sorts of systems, Acer's, HP's, Gateway's, even custom built systems, in the hopes they could replace it with XP, it just doesnt work. maybe with older systems, ones that came with XP and are vista-capable...i'm not eliminating that possibility, but no computer from our recent shipment of them is Backwards compatible with XP |

What the fuuuuck. GG Microsoft - looks like I'll be finally switching to Linux if I can't get rid of Vista.
P.S. This has to be a violation of some competition rules out there. Microsoft was getting sued for bundling their own software with their OS because it prevented competition, there's no way making an OS uninstallable is legal. Software should be completely independent of hardware. |
