Hey Funky
here is the step by step:
1.Put CD in
2.Restart Computer
3.Right away as soon as it is starting to boot, check what the button is to enter SETUP. It is usually DELETE or in some Dell computers its F2. Push this right away. If you miss it restart and then press it again.
4.Once you do you will be in BIOS
5.WIth some dell machines you will have a grey/blue screen, and BOOT SEQUENCE will be one of the options right away. Change it to CD first.
On other computers you will get a Blue screen, with yellow options. Find one that says BIOS FEATURES or something similar to that. Enter it. Now find the BOOT SEQUENCE. Where it says FIRST BOOT DEVICE or similar choose CD.
6. Now that you have done that, restart computer.
7. IT will now read your CD, and ask you if you want to format.
8. Say that you do.
9. Now it will format and install windows.
10. Once everything is installed, go back to BIOS and change the BOOT SEQUENCE back to HARD DRIVE first.
DONE :) |

depends on the hardware of that machine, you can wipe off vista, sure, but you can't install XP. if the hardware isnt supported by XP and the proper drivers for xp dont exist for the hardware you have, well your out of luck. colleagues of mine have tried to uninstall vista from all sorts of systems, Acer's, HP's, Gateway's, even custom built systems, in the hopes they could replace it with XP, it just doesnt work. maybe with older systems, ones that came with XP and are vista-capable...i'm not eliminating that possibility, but no computer from our recent shipment of them is Backwards compatible with XP |
what about rolling back on BIOS versions. Doesn't Vista use components of XP, just like XP PRO use components of 2000 Pro? I think they do....
but wait...Vista is 64 bit based ain't it...you might be right |

then if it came with XP, you can in fact roll back because it was designed to work with XP also, thus it's not hardware. there must be a way to get to the bottom of this, getting interesting
OOORR...if your laptop came with XP, the machine should have an XP recovery partition unless Vista destroyed it upon install |

I was actually talking from a point of view of a person whose computer came with Vista initially, because Mike and I had a convo about this earlier, and he explained to me what he posted few posts above
plus I googled and came across a link with a problem a guy posted his troubles with going back to XP from Vista, when his computer came initially equipped with Vista |

That link you posted is from last year, so I don't think his computer came with vista. He installed a BETA version himself, i think.:) |
