Read it again... the pope accepts the Orthodox churchs as true, he just views their failure to recognize the paplcy as a failing.

you aren't supposed to worship false idols yet every catholic church has a huge crucifix with jesus on it and everyone prays to it.....religion=makes no sense at all.

I think the whole thing about that is Jesus is god. You know, the holy trinity, so you can worship him and eat him.

The whole point of Christianity, in my opinion, is to follow the teachings of Christ. Worship has just made it into a bull ritual that everyone goes to on Sunday.

hmmm, not quite. One does not pray to the crucifix. It may look as though they do but in actuality they are praying to God through Jesus... the general direction of paritioners as facing toward the sanctuary is because that is where the tabernacle is... the tabernacle being the box in which is stored the body of Christ (okay, so really it's bread that has been blessed and through the power of the holy spirit magically becomes Christ's body yet somehow still looks feels and tastes like bread but you get the point).

there is way more bull to religion than that...i remain Spiritual, but the Vatican can suck my balls as it has perpetrated more pain and anguish than love and understanding throughout history.

and Moral: when i went to Sunday school the stupid bitch used to say close your eyes and pray to the jesus on the cross. I know what you mean, but even kneeling in front of the cross is almost worshiping a false idol in a sense, and you know that many people probably pray to the cross as well. You can tell this because of the importance some Christians put on objects of symbolism such as a crucifix around their own neck per say. I'm not saying its the way it was intended to be, but it still gets done. This is only one of the huge list of hypocrisies in this and many other religions.I was raised roman Catholic and attended mass in Latin for many years. I really hate the church for some of the mind ing they did to me.

I can appreciate your position and acknowledge there is truth in what you say. It is unfortunate that, in all religions, there are not only misguided parishioners but clergy as well. I try to help where I can but some people are far too closed minded and unwilling to question what they believe to be true... which is an great shame especially amongst people who profess to be Christians as Jesus' entire ministry was about questioning the practices and interpretation of Jeudism.

yes...and it seems that every year that passes things become even more skewed. I find it so appalling that the Church goes as far as to modify its traditional stances just to keep parishioners. This is a cop out and almost a commercialization of it if you will.Spirituality isn't supposed to be about by lines and filling seats...it is supposed to be about the Bible and its message. All of this (to me at least) makes it too hard to accept with blind faith.

I am of the opinion that nothing should be accepted with blind faith. All things, including nay especially faith, should be scrutinized fully and only those things that stand up to scrutany be accepted as truth. It is most unfortunate that the vast majority of people defer this responsibility to others, which creates the opportunity for the dishonest and self-serving to take advantage of their trust... or moreover, their lazyness.

Well said and i completely agree with that statement. People who think for themselves and search for their own paths in life as well as spirituality are becoming fewer and further in between. If an entity like the Roman Catholic Church second guesses itself constantly...what are its parishioners to do?
