Speaking (unofficially and not naming it) as someone who works for a very large club and global clubbing brand doing sound/lighting, basically, in the dj booth with regards to the eqipment, what I say goes. Period.
I am constantly for example, having to reach across to the mixer output to turn it down when people overdrive it, and not once have I ever encountered any hostility. They recognise I am doing my job.
Even when tech things go wrong, or I have to hot wire in/out pieces of gear when the Dj is playing (very common as people bring so much with them nowadays) they don't mind- in fact I generally find they are helpful- even right up to most AA listers. Of course there are the odd diva/primadonna exceptions (naming NO names :stongue: ), but never to the extent of pushing me out of the way.
The Dj was in the wrong- totally. You dont shove someone out of the way doing their job.
The FX unit may not have been on his rider, or may have belonged to a previous Dj, or may have been malfunctioning- that isnt made clear. The point is, the tech guy had every right to do what he was doing- its his job.
BUT- There are ways of doing these things while causing a minimum of inconvenience to the Dj playing... and there are ways of asking what is going on without pushing him away.
Communication always helps. |

official statement from the creamfields organization posted on ftb.pl said that the technician had too much to drink that night.

| Awwww poor Menno ! I think that is insanely stupid of the technician. Why would you attack a DJ, who is being watched by an entire building of people, and has security all around him? Not smart at all, kind of funny how silly that is ! |

| Love the pic...that is funny BUT the only funny thing about this. If this where any other act then an EDM act it would be all over the news. That's just not right. He came there to play for the fans and that's how he gets treated :whip: :whip: :whip: |

Such is why I have taken up position as menno's body guard. I will handle the short people that he cant reach as well as I can.

"Hehe I had the feeling this would haunt me for a while.
I really tried my very best to be as civilized as possible. I've made an official statement on my forum people should read... hopefully that will explain it...
Hope no one thinks I'm a bad-boy now! Thanks for the kind mail...
Cheers,
Menno :) " |

Menno is prob one of the most peaceful and respectful people I've ever met. He's always worried about people being happy with his sets, parties with the clubgoers till the end and behaves as one of them, not the big time dj attitude at all.
I can understand the tech guy could've gotten mad, but as a dj, wouldn't you if they basically throw you off the decks? That's an insult to your "art", career, hobby, passion or whatever you would like to call it. The tech guy should've talked first to the organisers/event supervisors or whoever was in charge so that they inform the dj of the situation in a civilised manner, instead of just going ahead turning off the equipment and start ing with the dj who's there just to play. Remember there's a contract too, and to some djs, no matter how big, money is not the issue; they just want to play. |
yeah, but he wasn't trying to kick him off and turn all the equipment off on him though. He was trying to take apart some equipment, which like Freak said, could have been for any number of reasons. I am a dj, and am quite used to sound people coming into the booth and messing with stuff while I am playing. They are the ones who spend the time to make sure everything works properly and everything sounds good. Sound technicians aren't some Joe Schmos who have no business being in or around a dj booth...their job is essential to a night running smoothly.
I'm sure Menno is a cool guy, but it sounds like he started the whole thing by pushing the sound guy, who was just doing his job. The sound guy definitely overreacted though...most definitely...but he had every right to get pissed. Unfortunately the video doesn't show anything leading up to the pushing. |
