i've had 2 toshibas in the past..they have been reliable (the one before my current one was stolen... my current one is about 5 years old and is dying a slow and increasingly painful death.
it gave me a sign today when the lil slider that allows you to open the laptop fell off. now i have to use a knife to open it up.
i dont know technicalities that i'd be looking for except for these 2 requirements:
1> lotsa space
2> ludicrous speed
i wont be playing video games but definitely movies. i'll also be playing music on it and i like many applications open simultaneously.
thanks for any recommendations, peeps. |

Get a computer with Intel Core2Duo, 2GB of RAM and like 200GB HD.
After that its just a matter of companies. Toshiba and Sony are my personal fav's. |

| slickdeals.net is your friend. I would get imac if you already have a pc desktop. |

Like you mentioned before, toshiba is very good. I deal with Dell on everyday basis and they're okay. Dell have problems with hard drives and LCD's. I would say that HP stepped up to the game also. They're fairly reliable.
All the new laptops come with Vista(retail) so I'm not happy about that. If i was getting a new laptop, i would switch back to XP Pro. Eye Candy is what Vista is right now. |

for PC's i would suggest Toshiba or IBM/Lenovo
but in general i suggest a MacBook Regular or Pro, both are great :) |

I have the basic macbook, bottom of the line, it's 2.0 ghz, 1 gb of ram, and 80 gb hard drive. I use it for production and it hasn't missed a beat; I'm sure it would meet your needs, and it's about $1100. |
