my review of Pacha NYC

Had the opportunity to check it out this past Saturday.

It was a white party with Jonathan Peters playing a 12 or 13 hour set. This guy seems to be huge in NYC, except nobody outside of New York seems to know who the hell he is. weird. promoters that book him didn't even understand why he's got such a following there :p

As for the club, got walked right in which was great. The club is in a very old building.. kind of reminds me of King West, except dirtier. The club is 4 floors. basement, main floor, second floor which looks down on the main floor and a 3rd floor. There is also a VIP area with bottle service that is a balacony wraping around most of the main room. Place has lots of exposed brick walls and Hard wood floors.. very dark.. really retained the the feel of that old building. They wouldnt' let us bring gum in, presumably because of the floors which was kinda weird.

Sound system is Alpha Dynacord. Same thing Boa used to have and it sounded DOPE.

As for Jonathan Peters... he was playing on what looked like abelton.. but with a strange set up.. he had 2 laptops and a third monitor. was using a rotary mixer.. looked like possible a urie.. and there was some other stuff i couldn't make out.. presumably some controler of some sort. As for his music.. started out with this really ty tribal crap. the music sounded really busy and cluttered.. and the quality of the sound itself was really poor. As my first impression of the club I though it sucked and was ready to leave within 20 minutes. But we got some drink tix and made the best of it and started drinking our faces off. :D

Peters evetually started picking up the pace.. playing some House.. some pregressive souncs.. worked into some techy biz and some Electro House a la D.Ramirez... it was around then when things really started getting good. Danced for a good 3 hours straight, which i never do since I'm an old and normally ready for bed by 3am.

As for the people... some were cool.. were full out guidos and looked like they are part of the cast of growing up gotti. men out numbered women probably 9:1. and the few women that were there at any given point would have 3 different guys following them around trying to dance with them. However.. the weirdest thing of all.. was the dance circles. yes... dance circles.. just like the ones for breaking, popping and that shiz... except they're just skipping in one spot waving their arms around like former electric circus dancers while a whole bunch of people stand around and watch like it's the greatest thing they've ever seen. it was the gayest thing I've seen.

Ended up calling it a night just after 5am. club was rammed at that point. walked outside to see a line down the street.

all in all, good times. Free admission, line bypass and free drinks defintiely didn't hurt either :p

I recommend this club if you're in NYC. I'd go back and pay.

great review, especially the 9 to 1 ratio, im from NYC, and can say your pretty much on the money. JP is what would be called a party DJ, hes palys everything, i mean tiesto to cox, hes legendary because of his 12 hr sets or 20 hrs, who knows, yes his crowd is guido , but they are loyal like your dog, there whole WMC experience is based around him, Calderone, and Boris, all 3 the same genre

What club was Pacha NYC before? Soundfactory?

Anyway, I never understood why Peters and Boris are so big in NYC.

Fuuny thing is, I thought the same thing at WMC but he was playing at Space from 9pm to 1pm. I'm like who the F is this guy and who is he to play a marathon set during WMC at Space at that...

I saw Jonathan Peters at Soundfactory at a 24-hour Halloween party a number of years ago and he was pretty good.

Glad to hear you had fun.

haha please tell me you are joking. Every human being in NYC hates JP with a passion. The crowd you saw at pacha was the jersey/long island guido meathead crowd that JP always brings and is not typical of a pacha night, or not any that I have been to...... and I have been to a LOT recently since all the other clubs are re-opening/decorating/getting shut down/etc. (I still hate pacha as do most new yorkers who are aching for our clubs to re-open).
No one knows who JP is because he sucks. ;)

Yes, Jonathan Peters is very popular in NYC. I lived there for a bit and every few months he'll have one of those crazy 10+ hour sets (usually at Pacha). He won #1 spot last year for some favorite DJ award (think it was US based).

Pacha is one of my fave places -- spacious, multi-level, wicked sound system and in the summers I love sitting outside on the steps in the back.

Did they turn on the showers? Yes, they are real glass shower stalls with go-go dancers inside... they turn on the water and everything!

I liked Pacha as a club but after seeing the Pacha in Ibiza and Buenos Aires...it really doesn't deserver to be called 'Pacha'.

the showers weren't on.. but they had a crazy show on the stairs with go go dancers.

Sounds like a not too bad place club wise, I don’t know about this crowd situation I’ve seen videos of these guido dance circles and they are by far the gayest thing I’ve ever seen and the 9:1 ratio is not too exiting either... good review btw :toothless
