I used to before college, and visited every summer during college. Now i'm out in Baltimore but all my HS (Century) friends are still there and some have moved up to the cities. and i got like 5 ex-g/fs that live in the cities (i didn't date any rochester girls cuz they're all skanks).

also, guys... let's try to remain respectful in this thread. it's in pretty poor taste to make jokes about such a disaster, especially when there are many people on TA whose friends/families may have been affected by this.

ohh relax it was a joke.

I live six blocks from where this bridge collapsed. I heard the sirens go off immediately. Normally, I'd take that bridge every time I would go to my house if I was coming home from somewhere. They were doing construction work on the University Avenue exit off of this bridge, so unless you're heading northbound a ways past the other side of the river, it's pointless to take the bridge.

I have .02: construction work on 35 north of this bridge created a backup that would cause more cars to be jammed onto the bridge, I think it put more stress on it. Thank God it didn't happen a half hour earlier when there could have been 200 cars on the bridge.

PS: Aristronica: Hamline isn't really near that bridge. I'm sure your friend is fine.

yah we just talked. she was sleeping already when i called last night and she called on her lunchbreak today. everything is cool with her. i feel bad for families and friends that have lost someone though.

kinda makes you think too - life could go at any moment. chilling on a bridge in traffic. prolly rolled the window down to have a cig, turn up the volume on some sick minimal you just got from your friends and *poof* bridge down/life over. ty ty ty.

Did everyone get a hold of their family/friends?

Aristronica
yes. thankfully all the people i know are safe and well and no-one they know got into it either. i guess death total is gonna be around 20 - according to news.

I never realized how close this was to UMinn where my cousins go to school. One of them has an apartment that is 2 blocks away from there. he took that bridge every day to go to and from work. Thankfully he was working when it happened.
