submarining is inherently dangerous business no matter who flies the flag.
all countries have mishaps.
two years a ago one of our subs ran head first into a mountain at over 40 mph. neraly took her down with the entire crew. unfortunatly one guy lost his life, but it could been much worse. |

Well that's not the subs fault is it?
Bit like driving a car at 40mph, flicking the lights off and ploughing into a wall isn't the cars fault. |

no it wasn't. technically, it wasn't even the crew's fault. the chart provided to them by squadron didn't have the sea mount charted but a another chart they had onboard did but they just weren't using it. |

| I'm still bewildered how someone decided one day they had nothing better to do than go to the north pole and pollute the ocean floor. Some archaeologist a million years from now is going to be really damn confused... |

Tell it to all the other countries who did similar stuff ... Americans landed on the moon, and left garbage there ... trust me, the's much much much much more pollution going on on the surface than two mini-small submarines on a brief mission on the floor of North Pole. Cruise liners dump more pollution to the waters if thats what you're concerned. The pressure at 4.5 km depth doesnt allow for much garbage dumping or polluting. The subs were there for merely an hour, it was too dangerous to stay much longer ...
AND the mini-subs were using clean energy, there WERE LOWERED from two ships above, into the waters ... they didnt just travel all that distance to the North Pole. |

Pollution was the least concern in this case, and I am an environmentalist, too. These subs couldn't release much pollution ... they had to be designed to be very efficient and strong to travel 4.5 km down and up using limited energy for a small crew. The real issue with pollution is still ignored ... we make pollution in our every day lives, for stupid reasons and stupid things, while whatever was released in this mission at least did something useful, geographically - we could establish the geographical borders for political reasons. |

| I see the subtlety of it was lost somewhere. |

Sorry, I take politics seriously, and I am not good with jokes in cases like this. I can be a very funny and sarcastic guy, but rarely when it comes to politics. |

your logic of using clean enegy is air tight, I must say. How did the two ships travel all the way up to the north pole ? I'm sure the captain and his men used these.
