I was under the impression he meant Super NES chiptune music... and I'll agree, that soundchip was legendary and the system played host to many of the best game soundtracks of all time.
Some of my genres:
Progressive 2-Step
-2-step garage breakbeat
-Lots of ambient fills and spacey sound effects
-Hardly any vocals, what's there are usually cut up beyond recognition
-Tracks are long and drawn out, mixing style is a lot more subtle than the way they used to mix 2-Step.
Buttrock Trance
-Trance beats/BPM range (~135-140 BPM)
-Anjuna style electro basslines (Think songs like "Air For Life", "5")
-Breakdowns feature massive electric guitar riffs
(I guess the song "Friendzone" is similar to what I have in mind for this genre) |

Q: Why did the Chicane cross the road?
A: To get to "The Other Side"

Funny. That's pretty much what I'm trying to make now, main inspirations of course being El-B and Horsepower Productions. |

If Sander van Doorn had a child with Tiga while Ferry watched & jacked off, this would be the result... |
