No...
just kidding :D. your post is very long, i didn't read it all but anyway, introduce yourself to people at some party, that's how I meet NYTAs. My advice to you on that is not to continue calling people by their sn, that's pretty damn annoying. Don't be scared to go to things by yourself either I've done it and know others who've done it too. I've always meet people to talk to but since you are there for the music it shouldn't bother you too much. |

Aftli, my clubbing friends started falling away about a year ago, no one wanted to go out as much as I did, so I started going out alone. Over the course of this last year, I've met so many people via TA (yes, obnoxiously going up to people at clubs and going, hey, are you phoenixbebe?) that now, when I go out, i see anywhere from 2 to 20 people that i know. So just go out alone, and start introducing yourself.
And Danlaxx, what's with the crazy cat obsession? :haha: |

Hey guys. Long time lurker here, probably first time poster (don't even remember if I've posted before :).
I'm 25 years old, a total trancer. I love music. I DJ a bit (or try, anyway), and I've got a lot of friends/connections in the industry. Problem is, most of my friends (even the industry people) are either older than me and just don't have the energy to stay out until 6am, or don't like dance music at all. I'm that guy that will stay out until the very minute the music stops - I love it that much. Don't do drugs, not gay (nothing wrong with gay people, though), just love trance music.
It's really hard to describe the way I feel about trance. It's not just something I like, or even something I love. It's something I feel I *need*.
I read a book one time which described the different types of people in this world, as far as how they prefer to experience the world. There are visual people, who prefer to experience the world through sight. There are "kinesthetic" people, who prefer to experience the world through touch and emotional feeling. There are also people like me, and I suspect many people here, that are "auditory" people, who love to experience the world through sound. That's definitely me. A common conversation topic is "if you had to lose one sense, which would you lose?" - I'll tell you what, I sure as hell wouldn't lose my hearing. Have you ever had "withdrawals" from music at a club with a nice system? Say your friends want to leave earlier than you want, and you're so thoroughly enjoying the music, that when you walk out of that club you feel completely empty?
I'm that guy.
Don't get me wrong - I love all of my friends. It's just that sometimes they fall short when it comes to something that's really important in my life - dance music. They, I feel, are the people causing those withdrawal symptoms whenever I go out. I definitely need a group of like-minded people, that can do stuff like that with me every Saturday night or so.
Then again, I've been to Space in Miami, and wasn't too concerned when I couldn't hear the next day. ;)
NYC area has gotten a bit better for us scene people recently, and with the rumors of the possibility of Space NYC opening in place of the old Exit, it's about to get a load better.
So like I said, I need some like-minded people. Guys, girls (I can dream right?), whatever. PVD in Central Park is coming up this month, and Tiesto is at White House in the Hamptons Sep. 1st. These are two things that I'd give a limb to go to, but I have this horrible feeling that I won't be able to find anybody to go with me. I feel like I might even go by myself, but obviously that's not ideal.
A bit about me - I feel like I am a pretty normal guy. I work as a software engineer/computer programmer (more like ware amirite) for a small company in Westbury, doing mostly web stuff right now. Women tell me I'm attractive, but I'm modest - I'm just a skinny white dude and they're being nice.
Anyway, here are the interview questions; check all that are applicable. I hope I can find somebody that meets all these, but I can of course make exceptions - this is more of a way to show the way that I am.
[ ] I can and have stayed out until 6 or 7am at a club just because the music kicked so much ass that I couldn't bring myself to leave.
[ ] I've been to WMC in Miami - I may have even gone every year for the last 4 years. It's the biggest event of my year and nothing can replace it.
[ ] I love Tiesto, Pal van Dyk, and all the other big guys, and I'd do anything to go see them play - even if it meant going by myself.
[ ] Trance and dance music is great in part because I love the people that listen to it. I know that when I go to see PVD in Central Park, or when I go to Ultra Fest in Miami (even in last years monsoon), I don't have to worry about stepping on somebody's foot and getting stabbed for it. They're more likely to give me a hug and talk to me about how much they love whatever the DJ is playing.
[ ] I hate rap music, and all other forms of music. That group is basically limited to just rap music, but can also include rap/dance crossover tracks. I can't stand to see my dance music ruined with crossover tracks. I am never going to want to go to a club/bar/etc that is playing rap music, and if I'm forced to go, or tricked into going, I'll tell all of my friends I'd rather wait in the car. (Really, I've done that before - in fact I'm famous for it).
Here's a list of the best nights ever in my entire life. I really mean that. I'm not talking best "nights out" of my entire life, I literally mean the best nights of my entire 25 years of life:
1. Tiesto at Space in Miami, 2005. If you have ever been to Space, the place doesn't just vibrate from the sound system - the floor literally quakes.
2. Ultra Fest 2005. A gathering of literally thousands of like-minded people - there just isn't anything better.
3. Ferry Corsten at Crobar NYC. Do not remember the date. Got in with a few of my industry friends - didn't pay a dime for a thing the entire night. Downstairs VIP area. Bottles and all - on the house. Even met some girl that was a promoter there, and the bouncers were all asking me if I needed "party favors" - maybe that's why they are closed now. Ferry walked right past me before he went on, he opened with Rui da Silva - Touch Me. Apparently he opened all of his shows on that tour with that song.
4. Catwalk in Barcelona, Spain - sometime in March 2007. Not sure what it was.. some no-name DJ, but I was really feeling it.
The worst nights? They start out just like the nights above, only they end with my friends wanting to leave *much sooner* than I want to.
Anyway, anybody want to be my friend? :) PLEASE!? |

Hi, my name's Erica, what's yours? I'm 23, love trance too (or I wouldn't be a member of tranceaddict :tongue2 ) I'm going out with Tom, EnigmaT if you've seen his name on here.

I'm from Long Island too, live in Massapequa Park, where are you from?

I don't know if any criteria are necessary for friendship, other than respect, courtesy, honesty, and acceptance... things along those lines. However you will find many like minded people here, including myself.

Of course! Just take a look at the other threads especially the roll call ones and see who's going to be at which events. I'm undergoing several disasters at the moment, so I don't know if I can afford to go to everything I had planned to coming up. I'm hoping to go to Sean Tyas, PVD on the Friday, both the afterparties, and whatever else it says in my signature, I forget. I look just like I do in my avatar. I'm sure we can make plans to meet up at something soon, as we get closer to it.
As far as making friends in general, I've made sooooo many friends going out, TA and non. Just go up to people and start talking to them. I can't tell you how many people I've met that way, stayed out all night with, and then brought them back to the beach on Long Island at 7AM for our own afterparty. I did the same thing too, meeting the TAs. I ran into Alyssa in the ladies room at Pacha, "Are you Pheonix...." My advice, just go up and start talking to people :) Everyone is very nice.
Look forward to meeting you. |
