Hi, I've been producing trance for sometime now, but I want to know which of the following VSTs is the best to produce electro sounds:
FM7
Pro 53
Pentagon
Vanguard

electro relies and is inspired by the hardware more than any other genre, as such unless you have extensive experience with working with the hardware, it is unlikely that you will create good electro with vsts.
for the price of those vsts you could be jamming a 606 and a 202 or 101 or something.
then for the price of any additional vsts you are asking about you could get a juno60 or whatever the you want... |

also electro should be a little dirty, it has to have some ghetto edge to it, and on a computer you're just trying to work backwards to acheive this.
psp vintage warmer vst isnt gonna turn an ms-20 vst into a real ms-20, with natural analogue character (no im not talking just about analogue versus digital sound im talking about most old synths you buy will be a bit broken...you want this) plus you just cant plug all that into eachother in the same way...yeah DAWs will open up new doors, but jesus christ, theres still plenty of doors to be opened with hardware, and with hardware you dont have these ed up revolving doors of things like fake tubes and all that . |

| I know that all except pentagon can make electro sounds... the only thing I don't know about is pentagon. If you ask me, FM7 is best. |

| What do you mean by "electro sounds", exactly? |

you can make "electro sounds" with anything, any synthesizer. Infact the simpler the synth the faster you will find an "electro sound" Take a single osc synth, select waveform, push key, boom electro sound. Theres a lot more to electro than finding out what synths can make sounds that sound similar to what you hear in electro tracks.
Electro has a soul...that you will have a hard time finding through a pc.
why do you think even people who are mad skilled with computers still use hardware when making electroish stuff? See: Aphex Twin. |

@beats and beeps: wow, very helpfull and constructive... thumps up! maybe this "why is everybody so negative" thread should be made sticky. btw i do not think thar a 101 is THE typical electro machine. i guess he would not want to spend some 100s for a monophonic bass synth.
@topic: maybe those vstis really do not suite so very well for electro. from what i do, i would recomend minimonsta and oddity. vanguard an fm7 are definately not the choice. i dont know about the other ones. my tip for electro is to have a vst analogue emulation that is quite simple to control as the sound really relies on modulation but with some midi-knobs it is ok. maybe you should also start with a sample cd with phrases and then try to create the same sound with you vst, then you see if it works. |

my words could very easily be looked at as constructive to someone who was truly interested in electro. I'm not negative, I love electro.
you guys are probably talking about your fake electro______ genres then.
making music takes effort, if you are constantly looking to cut corners, why bother? |

because they allready have it? all people who have it say it is more creative and then newbe people buy some hardware and it doesnt bring them anywhere. the problem is, that guys who make a living with it can afford to sit in front of an analogue stepsequencer for 4 hours to get a n 8-beat loops that joe d. average could find on a decent sample CD. and YES, that is what makes the difference but i guess that's not what most people are looking for

im 18, and poor as . don't tell me you need to be rich to buy equipment. I got myself hardware, yeah some of it doesnt work properly, yeah thats what i love thats what its about. You have to wait, you have to scrounge, you have to deal with shady people, but you get the ing boxes.
I use a ing amiga to sequence, you want to complain about not having money for hardware, what do you use some dual core ass pc ? |
