Loved magic since I was a kid but it's only now I'm starting to really appreciate it and turning more curious on how some of it might be done.
I'm more into psychological illusions/mind trickery, which I find just absolutely fascinating. Derren Brown (the guy in my TA profile lately) is an absolute genius. Best known for subconscious influencing, misdirection, and for his ridiculous amount of charm as well as TV specials; Russian Roulette, Seance, and Messiah. :thepirate
He's kinda like the British alternative to David Blaine...but better and more clever. :p
Barry Jones and Stuart MacCloud (Scottish) are really good too. They're renowned for doing 'Tricks from the Bible:
Monkey Magic (not the animation) was also great but only folk from the UK might be familiar with it.

Copperfield is a legend. One of the first I admired when I was growing up. I liked Blaine for a while but I find him too erratic for my liking.

lol, I've still to see 'The Illusionist'. 'The Prestige' was really good, great twist at the end. I think in comparison, 'The Prestige' was supposed to be better.

I still wince at this now and again, but I can't help but be intrigued by it. Make what you will.

That paying with paper bit is pretty funny. :)
It's hard to imagine someone just assuming he handed them $4500 in cash without even looking at it. Ahh, the power of distracting the mind.
