I see a trend here. People have argued safety reasons against water spilling yet its vigorously defended even though others think its a nuisance.
Then many of the SAME people complain to no end about whistlers and how annoying they are.
Both whistlers AND water spillers would argue that it's just part of the clubbing experience and if you dont like it stay home.
I find it interesting how hypocritical humans can be. |
You're grasping at straws here.
Difference:
- 50 people whistling off-beat, non-stop, ruins the experience.
- 50 people spilling a tiny bit of water on the spot they're already dancing on doesn't affect anyone and it certainly doesn't drown out the music. |

actually, I think 50 people making conditions dangerous for hundreds of others is FAR worse then 50 people blowing whistles. Plus, you exaggerate one, while playing down the other.
Never in my 10 years of clubbing have I ever heard 50 people with whistles at a club. Even 10 are a stretch, and most people here will bitch about just one...1 !!!! LOL.
Meanwhile, I'm almost positive there are almost 50 people just on TOTA who are proud waterslippers. The fact they haven't EVER seen anybody fall on their spot, or claim that they NEVER move from their path of slippery floor is highly suspect. When was the last time you saw someone remain on the same spot during the course of the nite ? Besides, you don't have to move for water to get tracked all over the floor by others.
I understand Jay's point. People will whine about something one person does, without even considering all the ed up things they do during the course of a nite -- they'll even find a way to justify it while vilifying someone else.
It's truly staggering. |

Go ahead, I think it's only right that as the first brave TOTA to come out and claim to be a waterspiller that it be you that starts the poll.
:)
By my count, there are already 5 people who have claimed to be part of that gang. Not to mention, I've seen more then a few who haven't spoken up doing the same. No names...you know who you are. ;) |

Actually, we've moved passed the fighting. We're getting statistical now. :) |

LOL, I like your polling techniques...
More often then not
Occasionally
ambiguous ?
Not really ?
Maybe a little ?
Only when read a certain way.
LOL.
In any case, lets see how it pans out. I woulda gone with a strightforward Yes or No...you either do it, or you don't. But then I'm just a simple soul. |

One person is enough to annoy the hell out of people if they're constantly whistling off-beat. I wanna hear the music, not some cracked-out candy raver attempt to bring back 1999.
As for water spilling. Oh please  As if the only way water gets on the floor is by some proud "waterspiller". First off there's a hundred different ways that the floor might get wet. Secondly, I dunno about other waterspillers but the amount of water needed on the floor isn't even a handful, which is hardly as big of a safety hazard as you're making it out to be. Third, in all my years of clubbing, I've seen people OD, puke their guts out, trip on stairs (Boa, the steps to the patio at Guv or The Drink) and other ed-up, once-in-a-lifetime things; but I don't think I've ever seen someone completely wipe out because of a slippery floor.
You wanna talk safety hazards? Look no further than glowsticks. Those things could poke someone's eye out. |

I broke down the simple "yes" into 3 options. I would have done the same for "no", but they would have been all the same. |

And I have...so what does that prove?
Besides, just like the people who whistle and don't give a hoot about how it ruins another persons experience, I highly doubt someone who spills water cares that someone else falls as a result of their action. Maybe that's why they don't see it. It's easier to turn your back on something you / or someone like you might have caused. Unless of course the person falling was you or someone you knew.
Also, who says everyone is annoyed by whistles. There are plenty of people who seem to dig it from what I've seen. Either that, or they're completly oblivious to it, just like they're oblivious to water on the floor, glowsticks, sweaty monkeys, etc.
I guess cause it annoys you specifically, it's a big deal right? I guess it's kinda the same with me. Except it doesn't annoy me as much as boogle my mind.
Slippery dance floor > sticky dance floor ... still trying to wrap my head round that one. Only in a place where a majority of people are on drugs does that make sense. I'm going to have to pass that argument onto those of my friends who salsa, or tapdance, or break...
 |

I didn't know frequency was an issue. Like whistle blowing, I thought the question was - do you do it with pride, or not at all. But whatever, I'm not going to be pedantic when it was I who suggested you do the poll. |
