I've noticed this happen once in the local scene here in San Antonio. Unfortunately it is not what you know when it comes to mixing at all if you know the right people.
For these type of (DJs) it is merely a chance to get out there play some half arsed transitions which are mostly train wrecks. You will notice the track selection as well is like a person who has ADD always jumping around to different genres. <-- Please stay home and invite all your friends to your house instead of coming to a club.
We all start some where though. Some of the DJs fine tune their selection and mixing skills. Others are overwhelmed by their own pride that they are blinded by their lack of skills and eventually succumb to what a real DJ is; A super bad ass.
As for knowing tracks, meh dude, in all honesty knowing track names will not be something of great importance but to a select few who really enjoy the music. Most people are there for other reasons than the music. list of other reasons goes here -->> [. . .] <<--
My Two Cents:
The DJ for one should always be prepared to let anyone and everyone know track names/Artist/labels. I mean if you don't let others know how will the music spread? On the other hand it is acceptable to have a white label and wave that around and never tell anyone the track ID. . . That way for those who really do care, they will have something to hunt down.
1) It doesn't matter what you know when it comes to DJing but who you know is what matters. <-- Sad but so true. So many club owners have friends who wanna be DJs, so they let them spin for the night. Seen this happen.
Side note about the local scene here:
A local Super Bad ass (Dave Molina) I met a while back has done an excellent job at weeding out these types of people out if he has some say in who gets to spin that night. Sometimes club owners have more say though. |

as long as there's some semblance of continuity, I rather enjoy that...although I've never heard someone do that when I've been out--just in mixes I've listened to at home. I guess it might get annoying at a club, instead of in front of your computer or driving in your car. |
