If it troubles you that much move out. Personally, I would take umbrage with anyone, particularly a child of mind that I am supporting, telling me how I should be concerned about my finances or cost accountability. Even if it only saves pennies are you in any position to denounce their intentions assuming the fact that you don't contribute any income?

I'm not moving out because of a desk, that was just an example. :p
I'm moving out because of the stupid mentalities and constant arguments over the dumbest crap that shouldnt even matter.

move out. live with friends.

I wouldn't want to live with my friends personally, I get sick of people easily, and can't deal with the same people day in day out, no matter how much I like them.

Ideal situation, for me, would be living with an acquiantance/random room mate who you get along well with but don't really interact with excessively.

Just FYI:

$350 a fornight Youth Allowance
http://www.centrelink.gov.au/intern...pay_how_yal.htm

+

$100 a fornight Rent Assistance
http://www.centrelink.gov.au/intern.../pay_how_ra.htm

= $450 (225 per week) :)

I'm probably gonna get a 3 bedroom place with friends. $250 a week in an area like Plympton (ok, a bit of a step down from where I live atm lol... but it's ok) is $80 a week each.
- Internet = $5
- Food (I'm a horse) = $90
- Water & = $10?
- Mobile = $10?

You'd still have $30 left over just from the Centre Link stuff.

Anthony works in the grocery store
Savin' his pennies for someday
Mama Leone left a note on the door,
She said,
"Sonny, move out to the country."
Workin' too hard can give you
A heart attackackackackackack
You oughta know by now
Who needs a house out in Hackensack?
Is that all you get for your money?

And it seems such a waste of time
If that's what it's all about
Mama, If that's movin' up then I'm movin' out.
Mmm, I'm movin' out. Ooh-hoo, uh-huh, mmmm

Sergeant O'Leary is walkin' the beat
At night he becomes a bartender
He works at Mister Cacciatore's down
On Sullivan Street
Across from the medical center
Yeah and he's tradin' in his Chevy for a Cadillacacacacacacacac
You oughta know by now
And if he can't drive
With a broken back
At least he can polish the fenders

And It seems such a waste of time
If that's what it's all about
Mama, If that's movin' up then I'm movin' out.
Mmm, I'm movin' out. Ooh-hoo, uh-huh, mmmm

You should never argue with a crazy mi-mi-mi-mi-mi-mind
You oughta know by now
You can pay Uncle Sam with the overtime
Is that all you get for your money?

And if that's what you have in mind
yeah if that's what you're all about
Good luck movin' up 'cause I'm movin' out.
Mmm, I'm movin' out. Ooh-hoo, uh-huh, mmmm

I'm movin' out...

That can't be right, they give people money just for being in Uni?

Crap, why did nobody tell me earlier.

LOL.

A few other things to consider.

If your parents make a decent amount of money, you don't qualify for Centrelink/youth allowance. I can't remember the combined total, but it really isn't that fancy huh. Unless, you are living further than 100km from them, in which case you may be able to qualify as 'independent'.

Rent assistance is based on how much rent you pay. To get the $100 a fortnight, you have to be paying quite a bit of rent - More than $130 a week, I think.

If you have a part time job, you can earn about $100 a week before they start ing you. More than that, and your centrelink payments will be cut by $1 for every $2 over that amount you earn (or that's how it used to be).

Maybe it's changed.

Doubt it though :p

Move out, it's great.

One thing though; move out with people you trust to pull their weight, especially when it comes to paying up the rent on time.

As Lilith said, nothing worse than living with someone who doesn't know what washing up is, or has other habits.

I had a house mate who left sausages in the fridge for three weeks when I went away; it stank up the whole house. I got home and he was all like "ahhhhh, so THAT'S what that smell was!"

Don't worry, after you move out you will start to realise you love your parents again and realise how much they did for you, and everything will be all good between the three of you.

I get the youth allowance because I earned $??,000 within 18 months after highschool. I'm "financially independant" in CentreLink's eyes, so it isn't based on my parents income anymore.

The threshold is $150 per week before they start taking 50c in the dollar.

I didn't know that about the rent assistance thing though. Thats a bit of a pickle.

Hey, by the way, I think you underestimate how expensive moving out is before you do it.

For example, an average week:

Rent: $100
Food: $100
Insurance (for your DJ gear): $20
Travel allowance (whether for car or public transport): $40
Random household goods (new cutlery etc): $10
Internet: $10
Bills (phone, water, electric, gas): $25
Going out: $20 (more like $50!)

That's $325, and then keep in mind that you may want to buy a CD once a week, or perhaps it's a friend's birthday coming up and you need $50 for a present (I'm guessing you have lots of 21sts coming up?).

Then there are other random things like dry cleaning bills or repair bills if someone breaks a house in the window, doctors bills if you are sick, medication if you are sick; the list is pretty much endless.

If I were you, I wouldn't move out of home until I had complete financial independence. Personally, I don't think it's right for you to be leeching taxpayer money just because your parents annoy you, either. Wait three years, finish your degree, and move out when you are clearing $500-$600 a week at work.

Yeah I just read up on it, apparently I'm not eligible because my parents are over the threshold :( Nevermind that they're 'just' over it, have 4 other kids to support, and wouldn't give me jack if I moved out.

Kind of lame, ah well.
