You can become eligible by earning $18000 in a period of 18 months after you've left highschool.

Honestly that'll probably be what I'm planning on doing. Think I jumped into Uni a bit too fast and now I'm stuck at home, no car, and unable to make the kind of money I'd need to move out, and just overall bored as of the whole academic treadmill after 12 years of highschool, and sick of being poor/at home. Gonna take a year off in 08, move out and work fulltime to become eligible for the allowance so I can afford to go back to Uni in 09 or 10 while still living away from home.

Maybe figure out wtf I actually want to do with my life in the meantime so I can study something specific instead of ing around in go-nowhere courses. Probably not though :D

Well, the issue with my roomie is that he's not willing to split the rent until I find someone to rent out the other room. I told him he'd only have to pay 300 bucks (half the rent is 425) a month WHEN WE HAD ANOTHER ROOM-MATE, which we don't have yet.

So yeah, I was gonna give him the ultimatum that he could either split the rent until I find someone, or leave. Because I can cover the full rent until I find someone else if need be. The only loser in the situation would be him, because he'll never find a better deal than what he gets here, even while he splits the rent.

But then I decided that I don't want to live with him at all anymore, even if he agrees to pay the 425. And I don't want to put up with anyone else's either...

So yeah, him.

The funny thing is, if I get this place, I'll be moving out in 2 weeks. So he's gonna be scrambling to find another place to live, and if he can't find one, he's gonna be stuck here paying FULL rent (850 + hydro). LOL, mother****** just couldn't hold out till I found another room mate. Now he's gonna get screwed.

Annnnnnd if I don't get this other apartment, I'm gonna ask my current room mate to leave anyways.

Isn't this the same roommate who stinks up the apartment with rotten fruit in the bin or somesuch?

Yes, you did. EVERYONE DOES. I, personally, think that it's completely retarded that someone (anyone) at 17 years old, is in ANY kind of mind-set to try and decide what they want to spend the rest of their lives doing. At 17, you don't even know yourself, let alone any kind of career you want to stick with.

My advise?

- Take that year off.
- Save that money, while you're still at home.
- Go traveling. Seriously, get the hell out of Australia for a couple of years, and get some perspective. About the world, and in the process, about yourself.

Or, study something now, and save hard for your mid-life crisis.

Travel + experience... Vs... Red sports car when you're 50.

Seriously. I just spent two years in school thinking at first I wanted to work in studio production, then an elementary school teacher. I figured the former would be good for just a hobby, and the latter I had more fun doing as volunteer work than I would a job. I'm 20 and even now I don't think I'm in the mindset to really know what I want a do. So, having wasted money on two years of college (though, I did get a bunch of basic credits out of the way) I'm only now taking time off to decide what it is I want to do.

Haha. Yeah that's more or less how I'm feeling at the moment, most of the people I know who're enjoying uni/doing well/happy with what they're studying are 21+, and have taken a few years off to earn some money and enjoy life a bit more.

It's kind of stupid, but the main reason I decided to go to Uni straight away was because I was going to be in a new city, wouldn't know anybody, and I figured the best way to settle down in a new place and meet people would be to go to Uni. It worked out that way, to an extent, but strangely most of my friends at Uni are people I rarely hang out with outside of being on campus these days, and most of my social life recently has revolved around hanging out and partying with people I've met via clubbing/edm scene.

I'm only doing an arts degree, so it's not like I'm aiming for something specific, it's just a 'I'll get a better job with it than without it' degree, or a pathway into something else. Just seems stupid to let it stress me out and dominate the next few years of my life when it's hardly that important anyway. It's interesting stuff, but I've always known I'll probably end up doing further studying once I figure out where I wanna go next, so it's kind of hard to dedicate myself to.

Would rather be able to move out of home (just can't deal with the many and varied issues that plague my family), save up for a car, earn some money, travel a bit, not have to stress so much about scraping in enough money for going out each weekend + miscellaneous crap working 10 hours a week. Figure out my for a year or two and see where that leaves me.

My parents are going to have a fit though :stongue: . They're very academically-minded people. Ah well.

definitely believe travel is a good thing, you dont always have to do it straight after school. I put myself through uni and worked for a year and then went off to europe for a year :D

you will learn more from travel then you ever will from any text book or job you have ;)

Europe is definately on the agenda at some point, and perhaps another location or two, was originally planning on doing an exchange program to go over there through Uni, might still go ahead with that, just delayed a year or two. Or maybe travel there under my own funds, not sure. Either way, it's something I will be very dissapointed if I haven't done by 25 or so.

Oh , please don't place any weight what-so-ever on an arts degree. It might get you into the public service (might), but you really don't want to be there.

FIND OUT WHAT YOU WANT TO DO. WHAT YOU'RE INTERESTED IN.

Don't study anything before that - You're wasting your own precious time, and probably hating it. And paying for it.

When you get back, you'll laugh at your previous life, before you went. It will seem completely silly to you, haha :haha:
