what in the name of crap are you talking about?

some of the games I see my friends play - anything from strategy to shooters, undeniably require critical thinking, on the spot. or as you like to call it "BRAIN POWER!" lol =/

and anyway dude, it's a friggin pastime. you read your books(like i do :p) and let the gamers play their games - but for the love of god, no more brain power talk, cause sorry, you have no clue what you are talking about.

lol you don't understand what I mean when I say "brain power"?
Intellectual ability.

Not necessarily. I think it all depends.

Alot of video games out there require a lot of problem solving and more than simple move from point A -> point B.

There are a lot of simulated Strategy games which require a lot of thinking and planning. Think of games like Command & Conquer, or World or Warcraft.

Even games like The Sims and Sim City require a lot of creativity.

I don't think you can make a state saying reading is far better than playing video games.

I'll admit, you're right, there are many games that require critical thinking, problem solving etc., but it's a game like Halo 3, a first person shooter, that I don't think requires very much thinking COMPARED. You go around shooting people, in different levels, and obviously you require skill, but there's not much to it. You see a guy, you hide, you try to shoot him before he shoots you.

Yes, i'll agree that a lot of FPS like Halo don't require that much skill. There are a lot of games that are just for fun (like certain books) and others that require a lot more knowledge and skill.

If you want, you can make quite skillful, espcially like Multiplayer. I've seen people who play the shooting stealth games like they are literally in the army. Using real strategies that they learned in combad and talk in code and everything. It's actually quite entertaining lol.

I had a buddy who use to compete in Counter-Strike tournaments (coincidently he use to be in the army too lol) and i've seen some videos of how intense his team was and how organized everything was. It is definitely something you need to see.

I'm sure there might be something on YouTube. But watching people who were actually in the army apply their skills and knowledge to video games is something to see!

PS. There was a study that was done which showed that kids who played lots of shooting games had better accuracy (shooting) and problem solving skills than kids who didn't haha. I should try and find that study.

but i'm glad you read my post and admitted to your stupidity, after the fact.

but...you're still wrong. cause the same argument can be made about any text, seeing as how in literature we have the option of reading a peice of writing that is very rich with depth/complexity, while on the other hand, we can also easily read very dull/plain writings that do not take any effort to analyze.
